After extensive reading of this awesome forum I've decided on buying a dm500c clone. Just before I "hand over" my dosh I wanted to clarify a couple of things as I am a total noob at this. (I'm confident with computers/networking etc so the fw patch/ftp shouldn't be a problem.)

1. Linuxsat Black Box [Linuxsat500] - ?64.99 : Linuxsat, Satellite Sales and Install (http://www.linuxsat.eu/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=262:94ece6eff91e1edf53034f963f88596d)

This is a decent dm500c clone that will take the DK1.1 image and behave exactly like an original dreambox 500c. Linuxsat is a reputable uk based seller.

2. After following the below instructions exactly I will be able to watch sky sp*rts/movies etc.

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f34/guide-step-step-how-clear-channels-uk-48380/

3. I have a VM XL tv package so all I need to do is follow the above instructions and then connect the box to my feed.

4. Last thing is that i have seen the phrases CAM, card sharing and keymaster crop up a lot, do any of these apply to me? As far as I'm aware all I need is the updated box and the feed. I don't need a card or to use my vmedia card or anything like that.

Thanks for your time guys and to all the people that put so much effort into those guides!

yes linuxsat is uk based but i read today that they were out of stock for a couple of weeks, you can buy from china but some people have had issues with the delivery time, the clones are an excellent buy, yes you can attach this to your vm feed via a splitter and watch sky sports/ movies etc, you dont need to card share on cable as its opened, you can download a cam to get it working all the info is here on the forum.

That seems to be a sat box you are buying mate not cable. Dont think linuxsat have 500 clones at the mo.

to answer your questions though:-
1. the clones are fine, linuxsat v. good when they have stock.

2. yes you will be good to go.

3.the dkimage will pick up all you will need but as it is enigma based you will need to add the ~~~~ and box office channels. a neutrino image will pick up all channels.

4.dont worry about card sharing etc you dont need that. the cam is in the earlier link so your fine.

Not been about for a while due to work commitments but there are tons of excellent helpful peeps here if you need help.

good luck

hi, great forum guys. i'm pretty much at the same stage as the original poster so thought i'd chip in here with a quick noob question instead of making my own thread...
Is it advisable to cable-split if you're signed up to a virgin media package? I've seen a bit on these forums about talkbacking, so i'm guessing this is so that you don't cause too much suspicion... will i need to turn my virgin media box on every so often so that it looks like i'm watching it, or should I leave it on the whole time?
cheers

personally i'd leave it on for about 2 days every week, however i would just split the cable and put the box in another room like bedroom or dining room etc so its always connected and will get watched

cheers mate, moving it into another room isn't an option as we're only in a small flat here. i'll leave it on a couple of days a week, like you say. also we'll probably use it for catch-up stuff. sorted!
