my box is stuck on the 'load' and doesent move any further. I have recovered the box with the Serial cable and loaded a previous backup.abs file.

now im trying to upgrade the firmware on the box, i downlaldoed this image from here http://www.skybox.cc/down.asp?id=9

when flashing , it says file mismatch.. so not sure if this is the correct image.

How do i exactly know what box i have to flash the correct firmware on ?

Looks like you have a clone box.

Unfortunately, the website that used to supply the clone firmware http://hddvbsw.com/ went down ages ago.

What is the software date on your current firmware? If it's 26/03/14 then I think that was the latest. If not, try the firmware that I posted in this thread:-

firmware i have is from 2012... what exactly is a clone box.. it all works fine etc no issues ive had. apart from after loading CWAITE Channel list 01/11/15 , it got stuck on load when rebooting so restored to backup image. never had issues with his channels lists. now flashed on 4/11/15, all goo now..

Tried the image you recommended , still no luck, using serial cable flashed it, but then it starts loading from 0-99 and so on 0-99 constaly reloads... Just stuck my
original backup image i had.

Usually a file mismatch error occurs when you try to flash an original box with clone firmware, or a clone box with original firmware, so it's odd that your box won't work with either firmware.

I think the clone boxes were produced by another Chinese company to try & undercut the original manufacturer. The firmware wasn't compatible though, so they had to tweak the original firmware to make it work.

I don't know what the later firmware revisions actually did. Some of them were issued just to try & get youtube & youp0rn working again, but it didn't usually last long.

I have found another clone firmware dated 01/05/2013. It definately worked on my old clone F3 (which uses the same firmware as the F5). I have attached it if you want to give it a try. If it gives a file mismatch when updating by USB, don't bother trying to update by RS232 as it still won't work.
