Hi I have a contract for basic digital tv for another few months but am thinking of buying an openbox. Is it possible to use both at the same time easily? ie my normal digital subscription to watch basic channels (due to ease of recording, better epg etc) but flick easily to the openbox to watch sport and other premium channels?

Also what is the best device to get so I can record programmes and pause rewind etc live tv on my openbox?

As long as your 'basic satellite digital tv box' and your openbox don't share the same feed cable ie you use different satellite cables from your dish, most modern systems have twin cables coming into your living room put one into each box and configure the boxes for one feed only.

For recording on an openbox you just need a usb stick or hard drive plugged into the back, plenty of guides on the forum on how to setup and by the way if you expect the openbox epg and recording to be the same standard as a normal $ky box you're going to be very disappointed.

Thanks for the reply martin. Oh I know the epg etc isn't great on the openbox that's why i was hoping to keep using the digital subscription alongside it.
I had a look and there's only one cable coming through my outside wall from the sattelite dish. Does this mean I can't set up both at the same time? Any way round this?

You can use the 'loop out' of one box and connect it to the sat feed in on the other box, it does work but it is known to cause problems with certain channel frequencies ranges. If you have a spare port on your lnb on your dish it might be better to pay someone to install a twin feed cable.
