just got my jtag to fix 8882 problem. could anyone point me in the right direction of a guide to help me do this. and what firmware would be advisable to use?

I've had a quick look on the forum but can only see mentions of the max232 to fix the problem.

Sorry if its already on here, if anyone knows where to find it pls just post a link. Thanks

What you got is a Max232 interface and not a Jtag as such. It should have came with instructions on an accompanying CD.

If not you will find instructions and loader here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f83/starview-4-usb-brick-21023/index3.html#post142092

thanks satsmo, no instructions i'm afraid but got it from here: Tailor-Made Circuits (http://www.tailor-madecircuits.com/shop/)

they did say i'd get cd an instructions but failed to materialise!

Which firmware would you suggest i use? I'm in UK, I was using V1.10 perfectly fine until i messed about with the usb while it was turned on and it got a bit broke! should i drop to v1.07 or go up to v1.12 or back to 1.10?

Sorry mate quite new to all this.

Manufacturer's recommendation is V1.12 that's all I will say on that.

V1.07 is fine also anything between that and V1.12 steer clear of. Anything above V1.07 is for a genuine box only.

In general thats the rule of thumb in relation to SV4 clones. However I have seen some with the heatsink removed. But 99% of the time they have a heatsink attached.

if it turns out that i'm the 1% with a heat sink removed will the max232 still work or am i gonna run into trouble? got me worried now!

saying that i did have v1.10 running on it and that doesn't work on a clone does it?

Satsmo,
i tried putting v1.07 on it but it still keeps flashing the 8882 error, the fw downloads succesfully. What am i doing wrong? :(

Make sure all internal connections are good. Have you used the Max232 for the 8882 error?

all connections are good i believe, i bought the max232 from TMC which came with a cd. I have followed the instructions but the starview still displays the 8882 error message after a successful flash..i dont know what to do.. :(

Try flashing with V1.12 if it is a genuine box.

how can u tell its a clone box ?

usual tell tale sign is a heat sink on the processor, others are on the power supply and a connector on the main board.

Anything above V1.07 will kill a clone, try earlier revisions by all means. But are you sure the Max232 flash is successful?

yes the flash is succesful, it displays dialogue box on the screen, and the box reboots itself after 30 secs or so. i have v1.06 shall i try that?

No harm but I would try the FTA only bin first, I have attached it, unpack and try it. You seem to fix a few boxes is this a dud from ebay or elsewhere?

I would also look for dry solder joints around the molex headers, maybe the TSOP was already lifted?

do you have to input codes manually for v1.06? i think this version has worked...fingers crossed! :) i'll check dry for joints.

Yes as from memory it is from V1.07 onwards that it AUs. If you used the FTA only bin I gave you there will be no emu so you cannot enter keys.
