Hi,
I'm having problem with car from one of my customers. It's VW Golf 6, 1.6 TDI , year 2012. Car has a problem with instrument cluster and radio. It's starts normally, drives normally, and after few minutes of driving it turns off instrument cluster (all gauges) and radio. Sometimes, gauges on intrument cluster are just blinking. Car works normally then, but if I turn off it then I can't start it again. I have to disconnect/connect battery to start car again. Never had this problem before. I don't know where to start. Thanks in advance for help!

You can have a problem with poor solder points on the PCB board in the cluster. It is a common fault on the older VAG vehicles.
I have not heard so much about the newest models, and this fault.

I think maybe there is a heat problem who makes this fault.
Remove the fuse of the cluster. It prevents the power from battery to be "on" at all time at the PCB board.
It will only start up when you put the key in the ignition.
The clock will always start at 0:00 each time. And will count minutes when you are driving instead. Quite preferable actually.

But your fault and problems with the vehicle, would probably disappear.

Solution find the poor solder point and resold or bridge it.

Or do a heat flow.

Or maybe change the complete cluster. New or second hand. If you have good tools to do the adaption.

If customer accepts that the clock is not working as normal. Just leave it as it is. With no fuse

That is the cheapest solution.

Most people these days have a mobile phone. They don't need the clock.

Thank you for response. We still didn't find the problem. I was only found that the red wire on radio and instrument cluster doesn't have 12V but only 4.5V. I will check for details next week.

Could be a faulty ignition switch. If that circuit is supposed to have 12V with the key on and it only has 4.5V, you have a voltage drop somewhere.
