View Full Version : VW Polo TDI 2015 - Engine starts for 1 sec then dies - (Fault Engine Blocked by Immo)

Hi all

A 2015 Polo TDI (Engine: CWXA 1.5TDI) had come in for repair. This car was flooded by water upto dashboard.

During the last few weeks, we had completely stripped the car apart and salvaged whatever electronics were working. Apart from the BCM, door locks and Radio, everything was working.

I got hold of another BCM and re-learned the keys - the procedure was successfully completed. After putting everything back together, the car started perfectly, but the engine died 1 second after starting and the following fault code appeared:

After this fault code appeared, I scanned the car using ODIS and it suggested in the test plan that the Engine must be adapted to the immobilizer. Another shop was able to come over and do this for us. The procedure completed successfully and the fault code was gone from the engine:

But, after cranking again the same thing happens - engine dies after 1 second and the same fault appears in the engine. There are no fault codes in the immobilizer!

Here are the actual values of the immobilizer from the car:

I noticed that in the engine, the IMMO-ID was blank. To check whether this was the problem, I scanned another working car. But the result was same in that car as well:

What could be the problem guys? The instrument cluster was water logged, but seems to be working. We opened the ECU to check for water damage, but it was pristine. Another doubt I have is of the BCM -- the one originally in the car had a part no. of 6R0 937 087 R, but this part number was not easily available (since it's a newer model) so the one I installed in the car was a 6R0 937 087 P - could this cause any problems?

Here is a full VCDS scan of the car:

The immobilizer is in the cluster.
Are you sure the cluster is still the same?

Hello

Yes, the cluster is the car's original one. It was not replaced.

With my friend's help, we managed to unlock the ECU and read EEPROM+Flash.

Any possibility for immo off? If not, I am leaning toward getting a new cluster and program it online. Before I try this, any other options to be exhausted?

Immo off not possible ( PCR )

Get a complete set from a similar car, including gateway and bcm.
MAKE SURE TO SAFE YOUR ABS CODING!

Then start with gateway bcm, and test start.
If it is still the same, try the immo part, ecu, key and dash.

Or short wire dash can high and can low direct to ecu connector.

Learn first Dash again with Keys and then Engine ECU it should be no Problem with odis.

I am looking at this option as it's the easiest way out, but the problem is I am unable to find a complete set from a donor. It's because that this Polo with the CWXA engine was launched here in mid-late 2014 and there are no cars that have wound up at the scarp yard near me yet.

Or short wire dash can high and can low direct to ecu connector.

you mean to connect CAN-H and CAN-L from cluster direct to ECU? Could you elaborate, please?

We have tried this a few times, no luck. 1. Learn new (existing) key 2. adapt immo to ECU -- both these steps are completed successfully, but after cranking engine cuts out after 1 second and the immo fault appears in ECU.

Even after reassembling everything, this fault code does not disappear from the dash:

As I had written earlier, the original BCM of the car was dead -- that had a part no. of 6R0 937 087 R, but this part number was not easily available (since it's a newer model) so the one I installed in the car was a 6R0 937 087 P (the newest revision I could get a hold of). We tried to code the replacement BCM with odis, but we were unsuccessful. After some digging around, I think it may be due to putting an older revision of the BCM, as the car originally came with a newer revision from the factory. I coded this BCM with VCDS long coding helper.

Could this (BCM wrong coding / wrong part no.) some how cause the immo fault? Unlikely I think, but just looking to eliminate my doubts.

Shot in the dark but worth mentioning just in case - is there a 'reset instrument' option? Otherwise try leaving key on (car on charge) for an hour and see if it does anything.

The canbus high and low.
From the cluster direct on to the ecus canhigh and low.
There is no need to disconnect any original can line.
Just run it parallel of the exhsisting wires.
I have done this many times for testing!
Blue Dash connector pin 28 high, pin 29 low.
ECU, ??

I got the correct BCM for this polo - the same part number the car came with - we were able to successfully code the new BCM online, but unable to adapt the immo to ECU again so that we could try cranking again after the BCM was changed. The guys that do the coding for me tells that the VIN may be blocked in online now - maybe because of trying to adapt the immo so many time before.

So now only way I think is to get the login code from dashboard and do the immo-ecu matching in VCDS. In this dashboard, can pin code be extracted from dump?

How should I proceed now?

The easiest way is to read immo data from your dash, with avdi, vvdi or smok.

Is there a dash display message, key not found?
And did you check if there is waterdammage inside your ecu?
You should try bypassing the gateway! Like i discribed.

Only AVDI or SMOK, VVDI does not support PCR ecu.
