I'm looking for at passthru devices prefer to stick to genuine and has many manufactures as possible but mainly for GM and Ford. I seen afew makes including the avdi unit which has other funtions available. Just wondering what people recommend, Opinions or would I be better buying geuine tools?

Thanks Liam

In my opinion the best passthru device are Cardaq ! I am using for Opel,Nissan,Honda,BMW,Volvo,Land Rover and Toyota like OEM diagnostic !
Also can be used to update ECU or TCM with latest calibartion files for a lot of brands

If You want to use for GM, FORD/MAZDA vehicles AVDI will finish job good. Also some functions for ford are a lot easier to do with aftermarket tool.

Does IDS work exactly the same with avdi as it would with vcm and when you say aftermarket do you mean avdi's own ford software or do you use something else?

Thanks Liam

All pass-thru devices work exactly the same job. J-2534 is protocol and if your device supports it you can do all operations allowed by SW u r using. Soon they will all switch to J-2716,and it will be another headache for small services...... AVDI have good coverage and easy to use service functions, and there is aftermarket tools that work almost good as IDS and most of them are FREE. Personally I prefer to use AVDI and FORScan for ford/mazda vehicles. GM vehicles are not popular around me so I do not have enough experience to advise about them.

Hi Gavra,

very informative! I just got my avdi up and running for Gm. Can you assist me in getting ford ? I was told that it's tricky to setup with Ford and avdi not fully compatible, can you help? PM if needed
