Hello guys,

I have a question about vagtacho.
I have a vagtacho 2.5 of china, and I saw the manufacturer's website which has a version 3.30 with more functions, the problem is that my friend tried to use the new software with vagtacho 2.5 and it stopped working.
Someone knows if is possible to upgrade from 2.5 to 3:30?

You need Atmega8 file to.Because, when software kill hardware they kill 93c46 and Atmega8.

once you have this you can read & write the cable firmware. The firmware ept file needs to match the chip in your cable however otherwise it will not work.

Ok my vagtacho use chip ATMIGA8L & FTDI: FT245bl The eprom is atmel 93c56 I will try to record the eprom route usb thank you for the information

My cable it was 2.5.... killed by 2.6 software.

After running this 2.2 update my cable works only with 2.2 software. but couldnt conect to any dashboard from list.
i used connect to any tacho command.. wich works and learned 3 keys to my car.

I am not very good about programming so maybe some of you guys can test this software on a killed cable.

I then used the 2.2 fix posted above, and i did restore some of the cables functions, exept the ECU functions i 2.50.
Everything works in 2.20.

We just need the bin and e2p, and ept files, from a 3.30 or newer cable.

but i cant connect to vdo-new, only to any ecu and there i can only select between:

program new key/clear ecu errors/read ecu info.

when i run 2.5 afterwards, i can connect to vdo-new and all points are free, hummm. 2 hours ago and without the 2.2 update i only had errors like "unsupported command".

however, it works :D.

all above 2.5 will kill your interface, you only can downgrade to 2.2bin and it should work with 2.2/2.5 vag tacho..

I killed my cable, too - restored to 2.2 and only the "connect to any tacho" command works, but if I close 2.2 and open 2.5 all functions work (sometimes it needs a few trys to connect or end/restart 2.5 application)

Seems a little bit weird to me, but I can (for now) live with this.. hope this helps some of you!

The only dump available for "free" is for 2.2 and this is not really good.

OK, let's make it clear. On this picture U can see basic organisation of popular chips.

So, MProg we use to program eeprom inside (outside but connected) FTDI chip.

Programming flash and eeprom inside microcontrollers (ATMega, PIC etc...) it's a little bit harder. For that we use programmers like STK, AllPic, Pony etc...

If someone ask for dumps for VagTacho, that mean: Flash for Atmega, EEPROM for Atmega and EEPROM for FTDI. With MProg can be read only eeprom from FTDI, but for VagTacho, that eeprom is nothing, because real thing is inside Atmega...

Today I heard that in China can be read Atmega to make the clone, but it is related to chip slit... It isn't for sure, but Atmega has fusebits, and this is the reason why it isn's so easy to read the memory...

this is really useful.
It is not useful at all. Since v.2.3 the HEX-file of ATmega is dependent upon serial number of FDTI-245RL. And using some algo an adaptor takes its unique number.
You need initial HEX for ATmega and supplement HEX-procedure to validate this Serial. Since version 3.0 the procedure has been changed again..

i have Vagtacho 2.5, and i can?t find drivers for Win7, i tried from FTDI ( http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM%202.06.00%20WHQL%20Certified.zip ) D2XX drivers but 7 can?t install.

Hardaware name is: USB <-> ISO Interface

Hardware ID is: USB\VID_0403&PID_D099&REV_0000

EEPROM is: FT245BL

Also FT_Prog can?t find it when i do SCAN AND PARSE in XP or 7, but Vagtacho works on XP.

Actually You bought "refreshed" ver. 2.60 or 2.50.
Version 3.00 and later has BOSCH RB4 support (You can find it in drop-down menu).

No You cant Use Vag tacho with K+Can interface, and I dont think you will make it work with other dash.

I forgot to mention that the UN4(UKNSI) one was on the CAR by Audi, so I bought the car with it, but I put the VDO in it cause now I have a Voltmeter and Oil Temp., but I am missing the DAMN login for the UN4 Speedometer, and I don't have even the plastic piece from the service key cause on it I would had have the LOGIN code. you need to use mprog:

once you have this you can read & write the cable firmware. The firmware ept file needs to match the chip in your cable however otherwise it will not work.

From my research it appears that with the later cables there is a 2nd Atmega chip as mentioned above. This chip seems to be the wiped/corrupted by the latest version of vag-tacho, and is real cause of the earlier sw no longer recognising the cable.

After reading around various forums it seems the Atmega chip cannot be programmed via usb, it needs to be desoldered from the pcb and reprogramed with a dedicated reader? I am hoping this is not the case but it looks like it is :(

Vag tacho works with cars up to 2004 if you use it on 2006 you can damage instrument cluster from 2001+ cars work on Can protocol, Vag tacho 2.5 dont work on Can.

The destruction version 3.30 when the power goes out the eprom 93C86, must take the eprom and an external programmer to read and write to 16's with the bit. BIN is the software that I left.

When version 3.30 the power to destroy the Mprog you can not recover it only by 93C86

I used the 2.2 repair tool and replaced the 2.2 repair bin with yours... seems to work but I don?t see any difference for now. I?ll check tomorrow if 2.5 works without problems again.. :)

I flashed my vagtacho 3.01 cable with the Licznik file. It worked but after i reflashed the backup i made of the cable it didn't work for vagtacho anymore. Can somebody give me an advice how to fix that?

Or could it be a newer vagtacho version which destroyed my interface? I know this happens with the older ones like 2.5 but does this happen with the 3.01 too?

Interesting. Have tryed vagtacho_opeldt.zip and newchina.zip.

vagtacho_opeldt.exe is saying: not found the usb device

from newchina.zip
vagtacho.exe is not starting
but opel.exe starts and is sying ... USB K-line interface connected: ID 0858.....

Also i found this utility wich is capable to repair the cable somehow.

My cable it was 2.5.... killed by 2.6 software.

After running this 2.2 update my cable works only with 2.2 software. but couldnt conect to any dashboard from list.
i used connect to any tacho command.. wich works and learned 3 keys to my car.

I am not very good about programming so maybe some of you guys can test this software on a killed cable.
