Hi, i got a home made bench obd2 cable off a guy, the first few uses it worked fine, then packed in when i was reading a spare ecu, got to 1% on kwp2000 and packed in (ecu now bricked).

Anyway tried it with mpps and it just keeps saying "no device attached". Now i know my power supply is fine as its new, and get the little spark when conecting the wires to test current.

My mpps lead itself is fine as i've used it no problem direct in the car, so it has to be the actual obd2 adapter cable itself. I've stripped the taping back etc and all the soldering is fine, all looks well.

So whats the problem, any ideas?!

Its for Vauxhall 1.7 dti Delco ecu.

It's not in English, don't understand it. What I don't get is lead worked fine, then just stopped.

@dominik.m

Just checked there's power going through with a volt meter. There's 13.5v coming out the supply, going into the ECU connection plugs, and at the obd port also.

So maybe a communication error in the cable somewhere. Can someone explain what "pinout" is please.

I can tell you, that the bench obd2 cable is working good, but your KWP2000 just ~~~~ed up this ECU...
Regards!

Quite difficult for somebody to help you if you are asking this question...

First blow some compressed air and clean those plugs, too dirty ,
Second, post a picture with your power supply, think that might be your problem..

I've just found this, is this of any use.

Was told by a reputable known tuner who supplied me the lead that this power supply would be OK.

So far so good, now check with your multimeter set to mesure 220v AC between gnd on your power supply and gnd of your laptop/pc you are using.. both must be plugged in and powered on....

Might sound silly now, but how do I check the gnd of them ????

Thanks.

Simple, power your power supply and your laptop/pc,
set the multimeter so you can measure 220v AC
one probe of the multimeter goes to pc ground(metal part of the usb plug)
the other probe goes on -(black plug) of your power supply
And hope you don't see something like 170 v

Try to plug your kwp interface on a working car see if still works....

Right so (red probe) to my laptop USB, and (black probe) to black connection of my bench power supply.

What reading am I looking for?!

0 V, ofcourse...

:chuncky: I guessed that, just making sure haha

Just checked my gnd, it flicks between 00.0 and 00.4.

Have tested the continuity of my k-line by putting the multimeter on resistance symbol and putting black probe on gnd pin 4/5 and red probe on pin 7 k-line. Not getting a beep from it so got a open circuit there. Also tested it on ECU plug end, again no beep.

So whats wrong there, I'm guessing this is my problem.

Please help.... Thanks

I don't think that your adapter(bench tuning cable) is broken
Your psu seems ok, that leaves you with a fubared ECU...

Please use youtube or google and learn how to measure continuity and voltage...

YouTube is how I found out how to test the continuity.

I had same problem with my mates ECU, after numerous attempts I managed to read and write onto it.

This one I've managed to get the mpps software to come on instead of getting "no device attached" box, but as soon as I click "ECU I'd" it just goes off.

By the look of the ECU it's a refurbished unit as its all clean and has new code sticker on, so doubt it knackered, even if it was bricked I'd still be able to read off it but not write, like my actual bricked ECU did before it all stopped working.

Not necassarily, If you spiked the power or put a 12v somewhere you shouldnt have, IT WONT ID-READ OR WRITE ! hence the expression BRICKED :stung:
Sounds like its ~~~~ed, to me

I used itno problems with kwp2000, then I went to read a ECU, it got to 1% and stopped, and have had problems with the bench lead since.

In car there fine, I really don't think its the ecu's. Like I said it was on AMD off with my mates, and has been a couple times with this, but not getting any further than it going of with ECU I.d.
