Hi guys!

Gutted, I come here try to get some help.
The car is 2004 volkswagen bora 1.9TDI, engine code ARL.
The car came to me because when stationary did not rev above 2500 rpms, and make a bit of white smoke.

A quick check and found that the EGR was stuck closed, further inspection revealed that the membrane was ripped...
So I fitted a good second hand EGR... which is now working as it should. At this time, I have also removed the intake manifold, and have cleaned it, as also all the pipework around it, was not that bat though, I have seen much worse...

The car does not rev above 2500 rpms, when reaches 2500 rpms, kinda oscillates + or - 50 rpms, but stays in the 2500 rpms mark.
At this time starts to make white smoke, which is also noticeable at idle, but much less.
If I rev it slowly, I can ear the turbo spooling, and when reaches the 2500 rpms mark, I can ear the turbo slowing down, if I take the foot slowly, as the revs come down from the 2500, the turbo kicks in again. I can also see this on live data, when looking at the boost pressure.
Although when testing, couldn't see nothing wrong with it, I have tried another MAF, but make not difference.

As soon as I drive the car, the revs goes all the way, and the car pulls like a train! But does white smoke still, it tends to clear though, after a few foots down. Until you stop the car and restart, when starts all over again.

The white smoke tends to be accompanied with a diesel smell, which to me means unburned fuel.
I know this ARL engines are prone to suffer from worn cam shafts, which puts the timing out.

I do more electric repairs and fault finding, as I do not have conditions to do big jobs on my drive way, I can see nothing wrong electrically, so if this is a more mechanically problem I need to send the guy elsewhere...

Will be much appreciate, If any someone can give me some advice...

Thank you

Hi
Thank you for your reply.
I have checked, vacuum is there, and turbo spools ok, and can't see why it would stop at that revs...
Unless I am missing something obvious...

Have you checked a sample of fuel? From what you have described I think it has diesel contaminated with petrol and a bad remap stopping it reving while stationary.
