Hi Claycraft,

I came across your message whilst searching, I did not want to post a message about a problem that had already been asked/answered.

My box was set-up on Thursday and initially everything worked fine. Over the last few days, though, I have noticed the same problem as you. I read, before getting the box, that the picture does initially disappear, but on Friday night it never came back. I stopped the recording after a few minutes. On checking the recording, yesterday, beore nuking it, I found that the box _had_ actually recorded.

It did it again last night and then again this morning on a test record, though on the 2nd test it worked perfectly.

A friend was advised, when he was thinking of getting the SV4, to use firmware 1.07 as opposed to 1.12, which we did. I am now just wondering whether it is worth trying the latest 1.12 firmware.

Sorry I was not able to help you with your problem, but now there s another message in the thread it might get noticed.

Make sure when you plug in your external usb drive that you format using the starview. press "hdd" on your remote then "format" think its the yellow button.

Same thing happened for me,been workin fine ever since.(i would recomend bigger than 4GB tho - roughly 50 mins will take up 1GB)

With regards to which firmware to use - v1.07 and v1.12 apparentle have very subtle difference(i've not noticed any personally).

Very important that you make sure your box is genuine and not a clone before upgrading to v1.12. if your not sure check downloads section there is a guide to identifying the difference

I also have the same symtoms I think it might be due to the fact that our Usb sticks/hard drives might be drawing to much current i.e.please note that the manual states that the maximum Ma should not be over 100Ma from memory, (Manual not at hand at the moment.)
