Just prior to it being closed down in Argentina, Russia Today (RT) has reached an agreement with the country?s media authority to keep the signal on a free-to-air basis.

rt argentinaSince Argentina?s Government stated its intention to remove RT from the DTT network, negotiations between the country?s media authority and the Russia Today group have been ongoing.

?Conversations have made it possible for us to improve the TV and cultural exchange between both countries,? stated Argentina?s Sistema Federal de Medios y Contenidos P?blicos in a release.

Although not all the details of the new agreement have been unveiled, Russia Today has agreed to increase collaboration with the Argentinean Government, deliver more local news and add more Argentinean content to its line-up.

Both countries have also promised to co-produce different formats, with more specific details being disclosed in the coming weeks.

?The most important thing is that we have managed to keep RT airing in Argentina and we are improving our relationship with the country?s Government,? said Victoria Vorontsova, deputy director, RT.

When it started airing in Argentina in 2014, RT was the first foreign network to broadcast free-to-air nationwide.
