Usually i?ll find my need information through the search function, but not this time!
I recently bought a XPROG 5.5.5 clone as i don?t want to spend the money on a original because i?ll only need it once.
So my questions are.
Can i read (only read) a secured mc9s12xep100 1n35h with a 5m48h mask?
As i understand, there will be a 50:50 chance to damage either the eeprom the d-flash or p-flash.. right?
Why and how do people heat the MCU?
Does the MCU needs to be heated all the time while it is reading?
Are there some people who succsesfully red a 1n35h with a 5m48h mask?

Heating about 70, degrees celsius, with a hotair solder unit, just before and during the reading.
A new cas unit including programming is about the same price as a decent programmer.
I use vvdiprog, never xprog. But the xprog should be able to it.

Ok, i will heat up the MCU and will try to read it in "Backup Mode" with 5m48h mask with xprog.
rob h do you heat it every time? also with vvdiprog?
I only need to read .. no programming
Is there somebody who knows that it will fail for sure?

nothing is 4 sure in this world...
but if you try to read for learning purposes, I hope it is not on a working CAS4 which customer is waiting to get back! ;)

LOL!
I?m doing this for educational purposes only .. no customer whatsoever.
So i tried it today and i?m getting a error message! -> "Unknown MC9S12 device. Part ID: 0x0004CC95"
I?ve only tired it in Backup Mode yet.
Has somebody some suggestions?

Practice my friend, every one wants to sleep good at night, cas4 make a lot of people not sleep, only a few can do it, and never use clone tools for jobs where the module cost lot of money,
I use some clone and some original, clone tools make money and then replace with original, butter quality and let's you sleep good when your are 100% sure the tool as read good
Also you have to make sure what year is your cas made and match it with xprog software, if your xprog is ~~~~ quality, and it kills the cas then, you loose money, cas is more money then your clone

I?ve tested a 5m48h MCU and read/write works fine but the 1n35h won't.
1n35h is still alive and works..
Part ID: 0x0004CC95 is a 1n35h MCU
Part ID: 0x0004CC94 is a 5m48h MCU
I saw this thread and tried -> http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/523642-Xprog-mix-of-version-5-55-and-5-70
Now i?ve tested this mixed Version, Xprog Version 5.70 should have the 1n35h but i?m still getting Error Message "Unknown MC9S12 device. Part ID: 0x0004CC95"
I think that mixing the versions is not working but maybe i did something wrong.

took the wrong link with the non-funtional 5.70 version .. there seems to be a other version.
Maybe somebody could post a link?

I have done many of these news masks with Xprog (original + latest update) and never had any issues. Heating is not necessary when you use "back up" function. If you use an original xprog (with the pull up resistor) and the necessary pins lifted on the mcu the backup reading function works with no problem. Heating might be necessary (i almost never do it though) for unlocking and my recommendation is between 90 to 120 celsius degrees. And I do it right before launching the reading process. Another thing is never to let it run for more than 30 seconds (the manufacturer even recommends to not exceed 15 sec).
