Hi all, can anyone help.
Just purchased a starview 5 and i cannot get the latest firmware version 12 to work. It keeps coming up "not a file of this IRD"
I assume i need another firmware unless you know something i don't.

I have seen it DD, the "NEW SECURITY CHIP" I find to be a great advert for the box :) Sorry for the subtle hint of satire. Cloners will clone that is the nature of things.
Yes it will have it's own firmware and hopefully should be out by Monday or sooner.

If they've gone for a new chipset, that is why they've probably had to change the firmware. It maybe faster & smoother, we won't know untill we have the firmware. Apart from the badge & the box it comes in, cosmetically there's no difference.

The software (201) is out for the SV5, unfortunately its full of bugs & does not work properly. I can only scan 24 channels in with it & they keep locking up. Also there is a considerable delay during channel changes. I 've been informed a new release will be available (Tues) tomorrow.

They should have held back the release. Like your last releases they where Beta on early release but at least they worked.
What is the big advantage of the SV5 over the SV4 other than an additional USB port? I seen all the other specs info. More importantly will support continue for the SV4 or will this cease?
@ OP Embassy you still have not said who sold you the box?

I agree, I think you may have missunderstood the spec as this box only has One USB port. Only difference seems to be different chipset, it maybe cheaper to manufacture.

Sorry sounded like a 2 x USB box? So the only difference is the processor? Similar to other FTA it is been introduced to counteract the cloners?
Thanks for that but what is the difference between this and the SV4 other than the processor? And will the SV4 still be supported?
Wizard1
21st September, 2009, 09:05 PM
Hi Satsmo
I have read the same as you that this has been introduced to try to stop the cloners. I know as much as you, I think along with others on this site you are mixing me up with someone else or suppliers of these box's. That is Not the case I have been using this name for more than 10 years, long before any of these distributors. As for the support of the SV 4, i've no idea. These are not box's that interest me I'm a linux man myself, but I have friends who use these box's.

Another thing, if I was associated with them why would I be posting on here. DF knows me from another well known site he used to moderate on. Anyway I think we are getting off track here. If I get a copy of the new Firmware tomorrow I will test it & let you know.
satsmo

At no time did I mention "them". I was assuming you were a Beta tester given you have the test FW and I was asking what were the differences you can/could see.
Sorry for the confusion.
I have also seen one and given the name "The Box USB II /Starview 5 is more confusing :)
Cheers, I think we are on track as all the questions pertain to the box and are relevant.

No probs m8, I get this regularly because of my nick. As i said before the only physical difference is the badge (The Box USB II) & the container it comes in. I havn't removed the lid, but I'm told the chipset is different. Therefore the need for firmware change.

my m8 picked up a starview 5(usb2) last friday and tried to load the SV 4 firmware on it and now it fcuked up, its showing 0000 and he cant get any response from it! Its just frozen.

Just a possibiltie of what the box can do.
I do not condone the use of these box's to illegaly recieve cable..
just a quick guide on how to get SV5 up and running
1st i recomend doing a auto install before installing the usb or software make sure you choose your corect area cable provider, eg NThell...
Once your box has scanned and installed all your channels then its time to install the software wich can be fount in the download section.
Once you have the software copy it to a formated usb memory stick...
Now you have the software on your stick, Make sure your box is turned of and install the memory stick into the back of the box. Turn on your SV5 and go to USB select the firmware and let the box do its magic.
Once installed and rebooted you will have to access the hidden menu for this press "menu" then "1,5.7.0" go to key and select "on" now exit and go to any one of the pay for channels let the box update and hay presto your away...
bjulian1982
23rd September, 2009, 12:41 PM
also fount out that the record function works for programes selected through the epg..A vast inprovment from SV4 and to me it seems to be less glitch free also...

once the firmware has been loaded go into menu and type 1570 on the remote this should bring you to the secret menu.

Unless it was made clear earlier :
Put a clean memory stick in the Box USB II socket and let the box format it. Remove from box and add the new firmware file from your PC.
Reinstall stick to box go to USB menu and then it will upgrade to the new firmware. Allow box to reboot. Re-scan for all channels. Key menu invoke 1570 and turn emu on. exit out to programmes, et voila ! key epg and allow to download. Sit back pour a tinnie and watch TV.
Latest firmware is on this site TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923.BIN

anytime a new box comes out and firmware is prone to bugs so they fix it with an update,so they advise to go with the latest fix.sometimes they say what its for sometimes not.

hi guys,
Can anyone help me?
Last few weeks been losing channels and had to keep scanning / reset on almost a daily basis.
This morning lost all channels on the box - did the usual factory reset and rescanning no joy. All I get is no channels found on all providers. Anyone else having similar problems.
S/w version 1.07, boot version b-11, date 22/12/2008
Do i need to load a new version.
I was wondering if this has anything to do with the retuning exercise going on for channel 5 - i read something online yesterday that lots of people may have to retune their TVs - maybe have to also retune the digi boxes ?
Thanks in advance for any help.

In the USB update my box is Model ID C531. S/W is 2.00
When I first select the firmware file on the USB (either 2.02 or 2.03) it comes up with the error. If I select the file again it brings up the upload window but remains on 0%.
I formatted the USB stick in the box first.
Any ideas please?

To decrypt Nagra 3, no there are none.
There are ways around it, google cardsharing as we cannot discuss it here. It is also more beneficial on a Sat system rather than a cable system.

Simple answer NO different chip m8 and the 5 was bought out because of clones for the sv4 the sv5 has what they say is an anty clone chip but im sure sooner or later someone will get past it lol.

I'm running firmware version 2.02 on my sv5 and lost sky sports 1 and mutv today. Got them back by restoring factory settings and rescanning but obviously don't want to be doing this every day. Do you think upgrading to firmware 2.03 will sort this out, or is it just a one off problem? Don't want to upgrade if everything is working fine as its needless.
Thanks.

Hi- followed the instructions above to install f/w onto my new The Box USB II, finally got the pen drive to recognise the f/w, pressed 'format' on the 3 file types that I was presented - MTPMEDIA CH Data Backup and Code Backup - got a 'Warning!!!' sign each time, and then tried Auto Scan. This just gave me the standard freeview channels, and $ signs against the pay for view ones. BTW - I had to go back to Menu and back to USB to format each of the 3 files. Am I being a complete muppet? NB the 1570 option doesn't do anything on my box - again, is it just me?
Help plz - I'm going mad with this thing

i dont think you have read the installation instructions m8 follow this.
1. Plug in the box and connect the cables
2.Format a usb stick in pc to fat32
3.Copy the firmware onto the stick via the PC
4 Switch your box off completely and insert the usb in the rear socket.
5.Switch on the box wait for it to boot up.
6.Press menu and scroll to usb press ok
7.The firmware should start to transfer from the usb to the box.
8.Once this has done hit menu and key in 1570 with the remote.
this will bring up the secret menu hi light keycode and change it to on.
9.You should now be set to scan go into menu and select installation, choose automatic scan press ok then choose your provider hit ok again.
You should now get all channels your after.
If by any chance you dont get the channels try a different provider.

Thanks for your patience DessertDog:-
I'm not sure how to format the stick to fat32. Do I need to do anything other can copy and paste to the Pen Drive?
Other than that, I've followed the steps you suggested, but have to format the 3 files manually. On each occassion it says formatting complete but I have to go back to Menu to format the next file. Incidentally the CH Data Back up and Code Back up files stay on the USB menu after I've formatted them, but the other one disappears from the menu. Keying in 1570 with the remote still doesn't do anything so I still can't see the secret Menu.

Ok all,
It appears there is still the issue with the program guide flash:
TheboxSuperUSB_V1.12 This will not load.
TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923 This loads perfectly.
Error V1.12 this file is not compatable.
If a fix becomes available i am sure you kind gents will let us mere Mortals know lol.
Hi Raff
You can't load TheboxSuperUSB_V1.12 to the Starview 5, its for the Starview 4. Starview 4 is TheboxSuperUSB & Starview 5 is TheboxSuperUSB II.

Apologies again if I'm being a complete plank.
Format it in the pc m8 download the program in downloads section PC Fat32Formatter if you are using a stick larger than 32gig if its just a small USb ie below 32gig then vista will format it ok.Your USB stick needs to be clean to download the hardware onto it from the downloads section.

Thx again DessertDog - I've now finally managed to run the file and have access to about 20 - 30 channels; but no non-UK channels and a lot of the channels I can get from my Virgin Media package are still blanked out with a $ sign. In short, I've lost about 50 chaneels and gained at 10 new ones. Am I being greedy? I kinnda thought I would have access to 100s channels. Any ideas anyone?

Yep - finally got 1570 working then autoscanned all of the following TW, NTL, EX C&W, OM. CHORUS and Chorus Cork. That's all the options I got. Most of the UK-based channels came up with $ signs. Help :-(

JoK did as you said
Menu 1570 - yep
Keycode to ON - yep
Set default key - yep
I then exited to Automatic Scan and selected and OK'd the same providers (ie. leave to update didnt do anything). Have I messed up again as I still got loads of channels with $ signs?

How many channels are ppl seeing? At the moment, I've got pretty much the same as my Vigin Media package plus Sky Movies and a random supply of ~~~~ films (don't tell the missus though). What I really want to view is all the Premiership games which Sky/ESPN don't broadcast. Is there a way of viewing these games via foreign broadcasters - a bit like using P2P to view games via my PC?
cheers again

The answer is quite simply yes, but under the present encryption dilemma probably not adviseable, you would probably be better off keeping the contract but downgrading to the basic package or even their "freeview" package, at least then you will be able to upgrade as soon as the inevitable happens.

So the TV cable will stay 'live'? Why do you say I should keep some sort of TV package with them. Also what encription dilemma?
Do they have a freeview option?
Thanks again.

because from time to time technicians call to remove connections to houses with no accounts having the basic package removes this from happening

To be honest why not just drop to the basic package after all if we all cancelled our subscriptions there would be no V****n
would there therefor no free TV

re encryption. vermin is different from sly .sfaik, sly has never been hacked. eire has mostly gone to new encryption, nag3. this is similar to sly's, so will be very hard to crack, if ever.
thats why its best to keep basic package in case the rest of us get hit. sure it will happen, but as to when, god only knows and he's not telling!!

Hi everybody (as dr nick fom the simpsons would say!)
have just purchased an sv5, uploaded the latest software, all channels working, but have one problem, the option to sort and move channels is not available, by that I mean that I can see both options, but I am not able to highlight either to access them. is this just a bug or do I have to re-flash my sv5
:)
satsmo

It is not a bug, the options are greyed out as the SV5 maps the channels according to your provider and as a result manual sort/move is disabled.

There is a sv4 channel editor here Digital Kaos - Downloads - Starview 4 Channel Editor (Beta) (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/starview/23/starview-4-channel-editor-beta-609/) as the 4 & 5 are practically the same box this should work for the sv5 however ive not had chance totry it on mine yet so choice is yours to use it or not.

Hi folks - Got my Starview 5 box, installed the 'TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923.BIN' firmware as per instructions on this site...and....it...
100% works! many thanks for all the old hands on here that are so patient with us newcomers!:bird:
I have a couple of minor issues if anyone could enlighten me..
1) EPG seems to do a 100% download every time I use it..
it works ok so I'm not moaning!
2) Half the time I can't delete my recordings from my mem stick. I hit the green button, then OK - and the dialog box disappears leaving the recording still there. The only way I can get it to work is to switch off the unit at the rear, then back on. The files will then delete in the normal way..
Any ideas?
Thanks again

Hi Baz
Epg seems to do that on the SV5 for some reason but once its done it it seems to be ok for the rest of the day .
Deleating recordings not had any problems with doing that so far m8 i have used Mem Cards Usb Sticks and also a 40gig Hard Drive and all deleated fine m8.

Epg does that for me sometimes on sv4 & 5 but no big issue really, not had that problem with recordings i use 8gig usb stick, try reformatting it make sure to do full format/fat32 through the pc.
