Eager-eyed gamers with good memories may well remember way back when, before the PS3 hit the shelves, Sony announced that it would be borrowing Microsoft?s successful ?Achievement? system of rewarding in-game triumphs. Quicker than the time it took Phil Harrison to throw a thesaurus at the head of a Sony R&D employee, the ?Accomplishment? was born.

Unlike Microsoft?s mysteriously rewarding achievement system that essentially amounts to nothing more an arbitrary number for your friends to gawk at, Sony?s accomplishments reward players with 3D trophies that they can display in specific rooms in the forthcoming Home application. In theory this is a fantastic idea, and is certainly a good excuse to invite your friends over to visit your home for a bit of gloating, providing a wonderful museum-like display of all your in-game victories. Capcom?s Devil May Cry 4 is the first game that appears to have integrated this into the PS3 architecture, popping up whenever said achievement, sorry, accomplishment, is unlocked in a similar way to the saving system.

At this stage (before Home is actually available) these accomplishments are largely useless, though within the next six months or so when it finally goes live, we can all look forward to perusing shelves full of little Dante, Trish and Lady statues. It seems a shame that practically all of the 200-odd games that are already available for the machine will not carry this feature. The achievement/accomplishment list for both 360 and PS3 versions are identical, so decisions on multi-format purchases are now that little bit tougher to make ? 3D models or 1000 gamer points?

that sounds like a great idea i would also like to see them make inviting your friends better much like it is on the 360 atm it is too much hassle to find and invite a friend to a game.
