MPPS 13 EDC16C8

Hi to everybody,
I'm going to read an EDC16C8 Alfa 147 1.9 JTD 16V. I bought an MPPS V13.02. Do you have some usefull advice before to start?
I installed the interface and its software, I need to setup the USB in some particular way?
Before to read is better to connect a battery charger to the car battery?
Laptop connected to the power or only battery is better in order to prevent ground loop?
So any particular advice could be helpful to me.

if your battery is bad one, connect charger.
if you have win7, run application as administrator.
That's all advices that could be with this simple device

For laptop is better to use only its battery without external power?

Always use power on laptop !! always, and same for car battery , if fails without, car or laptop big problem, for small time use boost and same laptop charger,

Can I do some test on the interface to check it before to connect it to the obd?
I opened it to see the pcb ant seems well done and all the soldering seems to be OK.

no real test, see if you can ID ecu, then if ok, try read,
there all same in my opinion the mpps 12/13
ok tool, not the best, but do most things, just dont use on Focus tdci 1.6 edc16, always ends bad,
your car should be fine,
