Mini cooper EWS 4 unit... Bricked

Ok so I went to work today with my AK90 and plugged into a EWS 4 unit out of a Mini Cooper
and the customer climbed in to my van, hooked the computer to AK90 lead
and everything came crashing on to the floor....

?300 Computer fine...
?50 AK90 fine....
customers EWS box!!!! not so good!

I can no longer communicate at all with my AK90
and the key doesn't work!
so how can we go about replacing this please...

Can I just plug in another one of Flea bay and change the mileage
or does this need to go to BMW!!!!

many thanks in advance!Try to read mcu of ews and if mcu it's ok, you can write dump at another ews and all will work fine.

If it wasn't reading or writing at the time then the MCU should be fine.
Get a scrap EWS of the same type and swap MCU.

If you can get the ISN from the DME, then it's easy to adapt a used ews module, even a ews 3 will work.
I have done it a couple of times.

Wouldn't mind knowing what the MCU is!

is this the large chip (main one)
BMkeys if you could help that would be great!

just need to know what to read copy and write

(also I don't have any EEprom tools as such just the AK90!!

Did you solder the 6 wires to ews pcb?

yes I did but the wires I have are different colours to what are on the AK90 diagram!

I used a pinout that was on Digital Kaos
all soldered well.

but didn't get any readings on the AK90 at all!
it recognised the key Data but not the PCB of the EWS

So customer pulled laptop to the ground and the soldering was also possibly incorrect?
My kids tell stories like this when they have done something naughty.
We have all damaged modules mate, no need to make up stories about it though blaming the customer.

Look for a thread I started a while back on this exact problem.

Fallen - have I upset you at some point?
Customer did pull the laptop over but
I'm not sure if that was the whole fault as the ak90 wasn't reading it well at that point !

But the wiring locations were fine

The reason for the colour mismatch is there are two wire colour types

The one shown above and this One!

ak90 comes with marked the first one so you count by numbers and the by the picture that pops up also with numbers
