Hi, does anyone know how to reprogram a Becker Grand Prix 754 (or 755 Mexico) that shows the ---- display?

This radio does not need a code.

I know that Becker in the US can reprogram it.

I know that Mercedes used to have a special tool that they could use to reset the radio.

But does anyone know how to do it or exactly what the tool does?

That special Mercedes tool does not exist and the radio does not have a programming port.

Replace the microprocessor to fix the fault. This was a common problem in this radio.

do you know which microprocessor to replace?

There is only one microprocessor. It is the 40 pin chip on the right side of the top PCB and it probably has a metal shield as a cover and heat sink.

My understanding is the dashed out display ( ---- ) is caused by the anti-theft and / or the internal battery dying, not because the microprocessor is faulty.

Perhaps the anti-theft/dead battery damages the microprocessor (it does have an EPROM built in, I believe). If it's the EPROM, maybe it can be reprogrammed?
