Get a working iso from xbins. Alsol jungleflasher can out an hitachi into mode B. I do use the slax method. Also be sure you've set your pc to boot from slax

All is fine i can get into mode b with slax 2.1 and see drive on computer, set up jungle flasher as explained with jungleusb and the port enabled, but when i go to transfer files, it finnishes stating dump failed ? i have have tried a few combinations to get this to work to no avail.

i am connected by sata to usb to computer, would that be a problem? if so is there another software that can transfer the files to dvd drive?

Its possible that the usb is causing the issue? Dont you have sata ports? Try using a VIA card, or firmware toolbox

No sata ports found on computer i know wierd, can the hitachi 1.51 be loaded from firmware toolbox ? if not i think a via card is the way forward.

Using Slax 2.1 or UsmodeB (Jungleusb in jungleflasher) I can get into the Hitachi drive and see that it is in ModeB in windows and Jungle flasher, and by using the eject button pushing it twice to open / close so that is fine setting the Hitachi drive into ModeB to be flashed.

I set up Jungle flasher as stated in the guide putting the iXtreme firmware in the correct folder, (jungle flasher / firmware) and load up in windows, I can dump the drive etc using the dump drive function and save no problem.

I then go to flash iXtreme using the settings in tutorial, except there is nothing in the port properties to set, only the drives in my computer ? I continue regardless and it goes through the motions and at the end it feels like its done something, I test the drive and still the same firmware is on the drive ? I have done this in mode select and Ram upload setting's in Transfer method window?

I am doing a bit more reading regarding the port properties as it seems that I need to see my drive in there for the transfer to work? But any other ideas re welcome.

i dont think u can use a usb-sata converter it has to be proper sata ie either a motherboard with sata or a via sata card.

Thanks for all the help guys, but after much reading searching advice from all who help, i FINALLY got it flashed.

What it was it had been flashed with H++k firmware previously, this drive had to be restored back to the original os drive, then you can flash the new ixtreme update to box and voila......Happy days box flashed and playing new back ups, don't know if i want to go through that again because i lost my stragety and steps with repeats and changed tactics after the second day ooooh i tell you!...

But what a challenge and once again thanks guys (as DK says a little reading goes along way, and a lot does wonders :-) ....

I was also wondering the same thing and nearly got one of those sata pci card converters, but was not paying the prices on main street, and my locals had no need to stock them due to on - board chips on newer model boards unlike mine, but i wanted it now as my boys did not appreciate their box in pieces and wired up in a strange network lol.

But to cut along story short SATA to USB adapter do work Thank Networking :-)
