Help me understand how to use Delphi DS100E, please

Hi,

I have an equipment that brought by someone, and he asked me to update this. I've never seen or heard about this device, so I want you to help me kindly.

This equipment has a HP Pocket PC (hx2190b), and a cable and adaptor Delphi written on it. The program inside the Pocket PC is called DS100E and R1.2013. I've tried to find information about these, but couldn't. Closest thing I could find was here. So, I am asking my questions.

1. What is this equipment called?
2. What is the difference between DS100e and DS150e? Are they the name of the software or the equiment model?
3. Pocket PC has Windows Mobile 5.0 and DS100E R1.2013, what is the latest version and how can I update this?
4. Can I use laptop instead of this pocket pc and how?

Please help me here as I know nothing about these. Thanks in advance. I appreciate any information.

Okay, so no one was helping me so I did some more digging. I will try to answer my own questions. So that it might help someone else.



1. What is this equipment called?


This equipments are called VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface)* (http://www.delphi-euro5.com/menuinfo). The one in the picture is called "OLD mini VCI" by Delphi.



2. What is the difference between DS100e and DS150e? Are they the name of the software or the equiment model?


DS100e and DS150e are both package names, but they were referred for different VCIs. As I mentioned the "old VCI" is in the picture, but there is a newer version for it, and it is called "new VCI". However, when they were marketing these two VCIs, Delphi decided to make some packages for them.

DS100e: HP Pocket PC (hx2190b) + charging cable + obd2 cable + old vci
DS150e: PC sofware + bluetooth key + obd2 cable + old vci
DS350e: Ultra Mobil PC / Tablet PC + PC software + bluetooth key + obd2 cable + old vci
DS550e: ? + PC software + bluetooth key + obd2 cable + old vci

Second for new VCI* (http://dso.my-delphi.com/UK/downloads.html#pchd):
DS150e: PC Software + obd2 cable + new vci
DS350e:
DS450e: Windows Tablet + bluetooth dongle + usb cable + ob2 cable + new vci
DS650e:

So, in the light of these informations. I concluded that, DS100e package name only used in old VCI, so everyone named it after DS100e. After new VCI came out, old DS150e is forgotton, and new VCI is named as DS150e. But DS150e is only meant cheapest compact package, which only has sofware, cable, and vci. However, finding this information was quite hard.

BTW, in 2013, Delphi stopped production of old VCIs and in 31.12.2016* (http://dso.my-delphi.com/downloads/DDGX236_ds150(en).pdf) they stopped support for old VCI. For that being said last version which supported this old VCIs is 2016.20. However, after 2016.10, Delphi decided to give updates only through software. So, I doubt that we can find any 2016.20 version, or even 2016.10.



3. Pocket PC has Windows Mobile 5.0 and DS100e R1.2013, what is the latest version and how can I update this?


This PPC can be upgraded to WM6.5* (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519296), and there had been an unsuccesfull attemp of installing android on it. However, I couldn't find anything about DS100e, or DS150e sofware for this PPC, other than how to install sofwares on it. So, more information is welcomed.



4. Can I use laptop instead of this pocket pc and how?


Yes! Actually, it seems like only possible way to use up to date versions of the sofware is using a PC or laptop. However, as I read on, I realised that there is more than one option for the sofwares. Delphi, Autocom, W?rth are the options I came up with. However, I don't have deep knowledge of these sofwares, nor why should I use more than one of them. Also, pros or cons of them are unknown to me. Any more information is appreciated.

So, I digged and answered my own questions, but of course new ones arise. I hope you will be kind enough to answer these questions.

1- How can I get the latest/last firmware for old VCI for free? Because, Delphi stopped support for it, and it says they will not give any more licenses for this product.
2- How can I upgrade if I have the firmware, and what do I need?
3- Is there any minimum requirements for the laptop or PC?
4- Which of three sofwares that I mentioned is giving the 2016-2017 cars for this device?

I might nnot be knowledgable, but I would like learn more. Please, point me to right direction. Thanks in advance.
