subaru correction

I am about to install later sti clocks in my 03wrx, I have a 93c56 eprom on the 03wrx clocks, have read that with ponyprog and a SI adaptor, however the sti clocks have a l56r small soic 8 chip, I have an adaptor but should the same programmer work to read and write to this chip. Also does it have to be removed or can it be read with a clip on board, any help appreciated. the sti clocks are from a 2006 sti. I have calculated the codes I need and know which lines to change, just need a little advice as it will be the first time I have attempted this, the larger chip on wrx dash came off easily, but I am a litte concerned at the prospect of removing the smaller one, but if it needs to come off I know someone who can do this for me, just need a little info on the programming of it.

In theory mate.. if you stop the Occilator (join the two pins together ) they will read in circuit.. but it is much safer to remove the eeproms for programming ....less chance of a fcuk up...

Locate the Occilator mate ..Usually a Shiney Small bath shaped component... with 4.000 (4meg) on it .. and link both pins going into it together Either solder a wire across them or use a small crocodile clip...

Made this up ... Dont have a spare dash for the surface mount eeprom...

Oscillator... Looks like its connected to pins 94 and 96.Follow the tracks.to ^^^^^

The one I sent you was the Dill eeprom....Above the red Arrows is what looks like you oscillator mate

Yep thats the Osc ..mate Join the two outside connections...When I see that c56 eeprom I just want to remove it mate... make you job a whole lot easier...But if your not sure (and you're not) try the oscillator route .. Failing that ....take it to your mate ..

Thanks, I tried but wont read, I am using ponyprog and microwire 16 bit 93c56 settings is this correct for this chip if so will get it removed and have another go

My mate does not have confidence to pull the chip, does anyone know of anywhere I could take it near to dudley in the midlands that could either correct it for me or pull the chip for me to do it myself, I have tested dash in car again to prove I haven't damaged anything while trying and all is ok, I just don't have the equipment or confidence to get the chip off, any help appreciated

thanks very much for that, I will see if I can find anywhere localfirst ifnot will be in touch, as not worth posting anything at the moment. I would have to post as is though as cannot get the board out without removing needles as the stepper motors are different to the older clusters and do not come off by bending a couple of tabs, I don't even want to try removing needles in case I really bugger it up. I dont have access to any equipment only my soldering irons, have tried on a similar sized chip in an old dvd rom and even though I got it off, I amnot confident enough to risk a dash that I have just bought. I am amazed at the help these forums can give and how helpful the peopleon them are, just hope I can help others in a similar way.
I was thinking of cutting it off and programming a new chip, but cannot find anywhere that sells them so this has gone out the window as well.
