Usual fault. No speedo and mileage shows 6 dashes. BBA and ECU Testing charge thru the nose for repair. Does anyone know what the repair procedure is.

I've got one in with above fault. Non ABS model. ECU original from new. I soldered CAN transceiver chip up and then it wouldn't start. Swapped the chip for another one then car started again but still no speedo.

Just wondering if it's an eeprom corruption issue. Anyone got any ideas?

Cloned flash to a known good ECU. Still no speedo. Refreshed with VCMII and coded it all up. All working now.

Looks like it was a software issue. Although the new ECU cloned back into original ECU doesn't work so you tell me.

have exact same problem like yours.
new ecu sorted this problem.
Cloned it to original ecu, original ecu works. perfect. after a month customer came back with the same fault.
Just for try put the same files to org ecu from donor which worked last time, but this time speedo doesn't work.

Put "new" ECU, and customer coming with the same problem next day...
put the same good files to "new" ecu which worked previous time (flash and eeprom), speedo not working.

WTF?

ON / OFF TOPIC:-

sounds like either battery buggered or bad power or ground.

OFF TOPIC:-

we had cmax in ladt year, "no start when hot" perfect cold, battery was unable to power when warm.

ON TOPIC:-

often thought about stuff like that, ecus etc should have a mechanical sw to write pritect and dtop threads lijecthese!

i too now have a fiesta in like this too !...
was/is there a known problem with these ecu ?
sounds like its not really worth opening it up a reflowing? reading from experience here :(
maybe a bad wire from ecu to dash ?

edit... tried a reflow no fix, eeproms a 93c86
car starts etc ok.. just dash mileage all ---- and no speedo,
fault codes in dash are .."Invalid Odo Count Data"

could a rebuild of eeprom fix this ??... only have manual eeprom tools, autocom, and ecuscan (red cable thingy)
or is it more likely to be wiring ?
