Skoda Octavia 2003 - low range remote

Customer claims that remote is only working if the remote key is very close to the car (about 20 cm). (Skoda Octavia 2003)
I didn't test it by myself.
Any idea in which direction I should look ?

First change battery. If no resolve try code in another good remote - if working good customer remote dies, in other case is problem with car in comfort module
