Hello everyone.

What inexpensive tool can be used to read/write EEPROM for Instrument Cluster in Golf Mk6 which is UDS based, not CAN based?

Basically I want to activate staging/needle sweep on my cluster. The adaptation channel is not available.

Thank you.

Then read eeprom with clip (or desolder), that's the cheapest method.

Would prefer anything via OBD, if possible.
If I'd have the list of possible tools, then I could either purchse them or seek someone who has it and borrow or ask to dump/modify/write the EEPROM.

Thanks.

Any ideas if the EEPROM can be read with VAG K+CAN Commander, any version?

There is no cheap tool for this , unless you want to risk and mess up dash. I think SMOK X-dash is best option for price.

It seems that VCP is able to read/write EEPROMs. A person in another city has got that tool.. Will probably drive there to get that done.

You can't use VCP for cluster eeproms.
I think cheapest tool for VAG UDS would be Vagtacho + updates

Crap... Called him and asked about VAG Tacho. Said he had Vag Tacho 5.0. Will this work?

I Think FVDI can read OBD

Tried VAG Tach but unfortunately no luck :(

I select the VDO New CAN UDS cluster, click connect. Messages say 'Connected' but all the buttons are greyed out. If I click on Stop Action, I get 2 messages of dash not supported or sth like that. I can partially read the cluster's info (P/N, SW version, but not VIN).

Am I doing something wrong? Is this cluster really not supported? In the ECU selection I can see the VDO MY2009-2011, which mine falls into...

id pull it out and read eeprom manually and save just to be on safe side..
if any tool corrupts the dump , then you will have bigger trouble than trying to activate staging..

With good tools no problem read/write OBD. Done it more then 100 times.

Vagtacho 5.0 clone does NOT work. You need original latest version + VW2012 update.

Avdi. Vvdi2. Smok xcan. Vag tacho. Or read chip direct with programmer.

I told him which tool at beginning , if he does not want to spend money on good tool he has 3 choices ,
1. Risk to brick dash with crap tool
2. Take to someone who have good tools and pay for services.
3. Buy programmer and do it manually

In order to do the #2, you need to know what tool a programmer must have. This is why I started the thread.

Anyway, today I solved the problem. I think the man used CarProg.

I activated the staging, lighting, volume to replenish, made the true lineral temperature gauge (although I think it's still not 100% accurate with G62 sensor readings).

Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone. What edits to make coolant temp linear ?
