ASTRA G 1.4 SW trouble

Hi frends i have a trouble with my old astra g 1.4 SW 1999 x14xe engine.This car have electrical steering .When i start the engine steering don't work ( not everytime)for one minuts or like this.Sometimes start the engine and steering work ,sometimes not .
Level of oil is ok ...

Any ideas ??

either the pump is screwed, check the thick multiplug for burn marks

or your alternater is screwed

or non of the above

Meathead is correct, its trigered by alternator an easy way to test this is switch ignition on and see if you have battery light on dash, make sure it goes out with engine running. there is a 3 pin plug on o/s strut top with a black wire (ignition feed), brown (earth) and a blue white (should be +12v when engine running as comes from alternator) there is also a main battery feed which is the main power for pump check that at pump, hope that helps a bit.
