Got a dreambox 500 which was working but now doesnt. Doesnt respond to any remote buttons either. No light on front etc.

I downloaded new image files as I was thinking I would flash it again with a new image... but.... i dont know what the boxes i.p address is....
so i used dreamup.. I downloaded the latest version of DreamUp and tried with that BUT when I connect the power cord to the box I dont even get a green light on the box anymore... the first time i connected it to dreamup - dreamup said it found it and my box was a dm500.

What now? Have I blown the box?! how do i do a Flash Erase??? (someone recommended that i do that...!!)
Help appreciated. I am new to dreamboxes....
I have attached pic of my box so u can see what i have.

If it is online it has prob defaulted to first available ip on your network via DHCP.
Check on your router for what ip's are being used & eliminate the ones that you know.
Or you can use DCC (Dreambox Control Center) & do a scan from that to find the Dreambox ip..

If it is not online, then use dreamup to flash the image via serial 232 only, take the tick out of the network section, takes longer but it will work..

Hope this helps

cool... one question - how do i Flash erase?

smoggie
4th November, 2009, 07:34 PM
flash erase option should be there when you connect with dream up. if this doesn't work download dream base image from here Google Translate (http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/&ei=W8fxSoiXJZ2RjAeg5YWWAQ&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBgQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Ddream%2Bmultimedia%26hl%3Den)
Flash this to your box and then flash image you are trying.
what image have you tried to flash to your box?? doesn't look good if you have no green light

I now have a grean light. My box is connected to my pc using the same rs232 that i use to program my eurovox boxes with.

I can connect using DreamUp BUT it recognises my box and then just hangs.......

Any idea?

I'm assuming I have a Null-modem cable as you cant do eurovoxes with a serial can you?! (cofirmed that it is a null-modem cable)

its connected to my PC using a usb adapter lead....which again i know works and i do eurovoxes with it - not that it makes any diff!

Image attached of where it hangs!

Your not giving out enough explanation as to what your seeing with each step your taking..

Have you selected the correct com port in dreamup for the usb adaptor lead your using, double check in (device manager) coz it CAN change,
Then if you have done it the way Jok explained.

"Have dreambox powered off first, then connect the null modem cable to the dreambox and to your PC.

Run dreamup.exe

Click on connect

Then power up your Dreambox

JoK"

With the power OFF on dreambox & the checkbox unticked for (network), as soon as you run dreamup & click connect it will flash a small file first & dreamup will tell you to power on the dreambox,
then click Flash, locate + select your flash image & dreamup should start the automatic flash.

If that went to plan you should have a popup saying so, click ok on popup, disconnect on dreamup & reboot the dreambox.

If that did not work, then report back here with a bit more explanation as to what you saw, with each step that you did,

If the dreambox is for Sat or Cable & what image you are trying to use.

Hope this helps

Sorry... I followed all of JoK's step and all of Ianmac's steps word for word. When I click connect it says 'connection prepared now switch on the dreambx' at this stage i connect the power lead and flick the power on at the socket

I then get the screen which I attached as an image - basically in the free-text box on dreamup it says the time and DM500 recognised.

It then does NOTHING. It just hangs. The FLASH button stays greyed out. The only button i can click on is 'Diconnect'

I wait 10min... nothing. i cant select the image i want to flash because the button stays greyed out..

When I connect box to TV all i have is a green screen..

Hope that clarifies??

Is there any software which will tell me the ip address of my box?? maybe thats a way of getting around this??

Any ideas why dreamup doesnt work? help plz :(

Hmm, I does not sound good if you can't get to the stage of selecting the image, & if your sure that you have selected the right com port + know that the usb to serial is ok,
Then I Would be tempted to try reinstalling dreamup or another copy of dreamup to make sure it is not software issue,

If you want to see if you can find the box's ip, you can either find it through the router & eliminating the ip's going through it that you know arnt the dreambox,
Or try (DCC) Dreambox Control Center & that has an ip scanning util + other usefull tools, should find it in downloads.
You can also flash it via Telnet but you still need to know the box's ip.

There are quite a few links that are not working, was hoping that this was not one of them..

Had a quick search in Google but could not find another one to download, I will have a look on another forum to see if I can get one from there.
Even if you get a copy of flash erase, it could still be a problem if you can't keep the connection with the dreambox long enough.

This may be your problem, I have a USB to serial adapter and I can flash SV euro's krypts with it, but I cannot flash a dream or OM, I have to use my desktop with the dedicated I/O port.

You might wanna try this route, may save what hair you have left :)

JoK

Certainly worth a try,

coz it is strange that the serial connection cant be held.
I also use a usb to serial lead & a couple of times it did not work for me, & found out that the com port was changing from 3 to 4 each time I plugged in the usb,
it was giving the same symptoms as "Lost_boy" is getting:
Looking like it is connected @ first, but when it comes to doing the flash (no connection), so now before I do a flash I always check in device manager first to see which com port has been allocated.

Would be easier if you use PC with RS232-port & null-modem
cable only. Saves a lot of heartache

Where can i get the flasherase zip file

Just in case you did not do anything with that box & have time to kill.
Use old PC with rs232 port, null modem cable ONLY
Download Dream-up 1.3.2.1
Digital Kaos - Downloads - dreamup 1.3.2.1 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/other/8/dreamup-1-3-2-1-1389/)
Follow Dream-up prompts;
Don't power-up box until prompted to
Say no to FLASH-ERASE when asked.
If no success try diff Dream-up version

I have a dm600c that I'm trying to fix.

It starts but hangs on the PLi Jade image at startup.
It won't take commands from the remote control.

Both green and red lights are on and after a while it reboots.

Can't connect to it via null modem cable.
DreamUp says "Connected, now power up box". When I do, nothing happens. It never recognizes the box.

The box doesn't seem to be getting an IP on my router.

Is there any hope of getting it running again?
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Managed to flash it using an older computer with a com serial port. (Used USB converter on laptop before).
Not sure what the issue with the remote control was, but it's working again.
