Hello,
I'm having some issues with a e46 318i automatic. The car has 125,xxx km
The car will initially start and after the cold start cylce ie (Air pump off) few mins, it will die. I think the ECU try to use the valvetronic system to adjust the emissions output.
-after this it cranks like it got no compression. Cylinder 3 no compression. It will go back to normal when the valvetronic motor is disconnected.
-If you wait a few minutes, it will start and have the same issue
-it will only maintain running if you were to hold the throttle at 1500rpm, till it get warm (coolant temp half way), and then it will drive but missfire at lower rpm, and very lumpy idle.
OR* Disconnect the valvetronic motor. it will start and run like new but the throttle is disable.
The engine has good compression on all cylinders.
I have changed so far,
*oil pump pressure regulator
*DME
*Valvetronic Comptuer
*Valvetronic Motor
*Spark Plugs
*Both Vanos Unit
*Timing Chain/Guides
*Ignition coils
*Spark Plus
*both Cam Sensors
*Crank Sensor
*New intake manifold gaskets / Crankcase hose/ Crankcase valve
*Fuel Filter
*throttle body
*Maf sensor
*Map sensor
Looking inside an inspecting the valvetornic system, all springs are in tack (do they get weak overtime)?
-there are no scoring on the eccentric shaft, and it could be rotated easily.
The DME throws no codes, and i really do not know what else to do rather than set this bitch on fire.
Any suggestions on what else to try?
