View Full Version : Lupo 3L manual conversion

Hello dear members,

i am planning to convert my Lupo 3L to a manual gear shifting system instead of the automatic system which is fitted now. This is due to the upgrades sport clutch i am planning to fit, because the automatic clutch actuator simply can't pull it. Also, the system is not very liable.

I have found the manual file from pinotec/bumbastic from this forum

and since i found that the drivers wish and som other maps weren't similar to the stock 3L one, i have adapted them. However, DW map is different in the Polo ECU, so i had to adapt it by using interpolation.
(Will attach the file once i get to my workshop PC).

I made all these changes and flashed it into one of my spare ECU's, and bench test went OK. When fitted to the car, and all automatic gear system disconnected, VCDS reads all sensors (Tested with measuring blocks), however it thows 2 troublecodes: Steering angle sensor, and ECU defective (Fault in EEPROM communication - Will also attach these as soon as i get to my workshop PC).

So what i'm now am asking for is help for getting this file up and running. Is it because the flash looks for wrong addresses in the EEPROM (since it is a Polo flash?)

So here are the files:

- Original 3L file
- pinotec 3L manual file
- 3L manual file with DW and some other maps corrected (The one i have problems with)
- Picture of trouble codes (Codes are in Danish, but the code stays the same.

Anyone having a clue what to do? Really would like to get this one converted. The software is literally the only thing left

Test this file and look if there are DTCs for autom. transm...
It is your original file with only one switch changed.
If this not work... better is to erase the DTCs for automatic transmission and modify the Gear depending limiters, Main TL, DW etc.

Okay bobolino, i have flashed your file, but i have a suspicion that it is bad? Cannot wake the ECU anymore, and also not connect with it on bench via VCDS. Seems that i have to boot it now.
Also what kind of file it that you are using? A .bob file? Best regards

The extension of the file is not important, it is standard bin file.
The most important thing is, that i have not guessed the right switch for manual transmission...
So flash in boot your ori file (auto) and post here the error codes (in the car, with 3 ignition cycles, after you try to erase them).

Thank you very much, however boot mode is giving me problems now.

I have a FGtech galletto 4 (v54), and when i use the tool boot function for infineon c167 chips i can allways read the file (after grounding pin 24). However i can not write a file back in boot mode. ECU is definately in bootmote, because i have tested without grounding, then it will indicate at the ECU is not in boot mode.

Does anybody have a solution for this?

It makes a log file too, i just dont know how to open these .gal files. Attached it anyway.

Now i really need some help..

Do you have another tool?
If not... give the ECU to some GSM, or TV, etc specialist near to you and program the flash with external programmer.

Waiting for a mpps from the mail man, but would be great if I could get it working with this one. Maybe somebody has experience with FGtech v54?

The only difference in the file i could find was the switch you changed (from 01 to 02 i think) and then at the end of the file, there are some changes that i don't understand.

Hm, it is exactly what i gave to you...
Are you sure, that there is not comm. with VCDS, in the car?
I don't believe, that one switch can do this.
Have glow lamp On/Off?

ECU is not put in the car, only tested on bench (I have made a EDC15 to obd adapter), and this one won't connect to the ECU anymore. But for the sake of it i will try one more time. Only putting it in the car when i'm really sure it works.

VCDS says too many communication failures to proceed. So definately not good. Usually I can run full tabletests on them after flash. Must be one hell of a switch you found. Or can it have something to do with the very last strings of the file? They're changed as well?

At the end is the checksum. It is fine.
Any way, i give up.
Wait for MPPS, or program the flash with programmer.
