Read this earlier on the net, forgot to copy the link doh!
Anybody confirm this ?
You need to have had your Iphone on a 02 contract for 1 year then they will unlock it for ?15, seems an ok deal to me.

From the Times web site
Ask the Boss: Matthew Key, head of O2, answers your questions - Times Online (http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/telecoms/article6886886.ece)

I phoned O2 on 6th Nov, to ask them about unlocking my 3g iPhone, as my 18 month contract ends with them 20th Dec, so I can go to another network & was told (no), as O2 are still the only iPhone handlers,
So I said that I will be ringing you back on 11th Nov & you better have a good answer then, so I can give you my 1 months notice to change to another network.

Oh man, that will be wicked if we can get it unlocked, :bounce:

I wonder how that will work with Jailbreak situ to get the free apps, hmmmm, it might do the opposite & lock the bl**dy thing back up again... lol

How do you think that will effect you, recon you might get away with paying a ?15 unlock fee to Orange or summin, as you got yours from the States didn't you?

But just imagine, no more (ducking & diving) trying to get it unlocked after every Apple update...

Yeah man :dancing2:

I'll be happy to keep using a custom firmware and an unlocking tool,
but if push comes to a shove then ?15 is a small price to pay I guess.
As long as I can keep jailbreaking it I'm happy enough.
Let us know how you get on with O2.

I think i'ts only a matter of time B4 Apple will get that jailbreak/unlock hole closed,

did you see my thread about Apple's job advert for a security expert to secure the iPhone.

Here,
blackweather (http://www.blackra1n.com/)

Click on the (pc or mac) icon, whichever you have @ the bottom of page.

This is the new Blackra1n.
When it is on your iPhone, open it up & you have 3 options...

1. Install Cydia,
2. Install Rock, (faster & better than Cydia)
3. Install Snow, which will unlock the iPhone

Hope this helps

Ian

I went on the O2 page 2 weeks ago and posted details about my phone. I got a text monday saying I could unlock it.

Note : My Contract ends march 2010 so you don't have to wait.

I plugged in a Voda sim into my phone monday night, plugged into itunes and got a Your phone is unlocked message.

Voda sim worked fine. I then put the O2 sim back in and it worked straight away ( no pluging into itunes ).

Hope this is useful to everyone.

Forgot to add, my phone is jailbroken via blackrain and that still exists on the phone :D

Yes, m8

O2 are only unlocking the iphones for customers that are over 12 months into the contract, but they still have continue on that contract until the end, or pay to finish it early.

Mine :deal: ends with them in Jan 2010 & I am going to give them my 1 month :call: notice very soon, coz the 3G with them in my area is :toilet:
