Hi guys & gals, just wondering if anyone could help or point me in the right direction.

I've got a Sharp Aquos LCD TV (LC-32GD8EA or LC-32BT8EA) which is about 3 years old. It is HD ready but I've never tried to use the HDMi socket until now.

I've also got a LG DVX492H DVD player which is supposed to upscale to HD quality.

Bought a HDMi cable with glod plated connections which is 1.3b compliant??? Not really sure what the 1.3b thing means.

Anyway, put LOTR in the dvd player expecting to watch it it in mint detail but only getting the sound throutgh the TV, no picture.

Now this is the 2nd hdmi cable i've bought as i assumed the first one was faulty when only sound came through so exchanged it for another one so I doubt but are faulty.

My question is why will this not work - faulty cable although sound worked with both i've tried? Faulty HDMi connections on the DVD player or TV (TV OUT OF WARRANTY)? Or is the TV too old to work with the latest HDMi 'siganl'?? Or something else.

Any help appreciated as it's doing my nut in now, ta.
