Iv a problem on a 95 1.6 8 valve astra, the battery light has come on, so iv put the meter on the battery and when the car is ticking over the voltage is 16v, rising to 18.5v when reved up. now i know this is well to much but is it a new alternator or is there a regulator on these, is it in the alternator???

DO NOT rev the engine when the light is on as this will blow
the battery light bulb

Yeah, more than likly the rectifier inside the alternator causing the silicon chip inside the regulator to switch to overload.

Price up a repair and also an exhange unit.
