I had same problem in an 800, the hard was powering and spinning etc..but the box wouldnt see it and due to that could not format it. I ended up sending back the box itself and got a replacment which worked first time seeing the harddrive.

Also make sure the hardware make/model is usible in dm800

What image you using? You know you have to initialise (format) the drive, which will be in your setup somewhere.

The latest gemini, its not in the setup at all, the HDD is brand new so i am going to format it in an external first though i thought being a linux box i shouldnt need to do this

Well i have managed to get it initialised, the option for it it is listed under devices in the setup/systemmenu but i had also put it in a pc and formatted it with NTFS without drive letter...the box has initialised it also but when i try to start recording it comes up with

'disk size to small <100mb'

In devices it lists the correct model of drive and also the correct size.

did you NTFS the disk after the DM initialised it? Or did you fdisk it afterwards and put in into the DM with with no partitions then then initialise it?

No, the drive was brand new so i put it in PC and NTFS it but i told it not to allocate a drive letter, THEN i put it in the 800 and initialised it, it does spout some shit about the not being able to boot the MBR and is ok for LILO.

i installed my HDD in my 600 with no partitions or anything on it... Just initialised it in the DM as it needs to format it with a linux partition like Ext3 or similar (am not at home to check right now).

If i needed to format them with something different i would boot up on a Hiren Boot CD and use Partition Magic or Acronis as they will format a disk in over 20 different formats for different OS... I used a western digital HDD and it went in with no issues..

Just out of curiosity is this DM800 a clone?

Yes it's a clone, when I had it out of the unit the dm800 seems to reference to 20.5mb of the flash memory when the drive is ntfs'd in my pc and I put it back in dm800 it is recognized and seems to let me initialize it but it's still referencing to this flash memory which I think is giving the disk to small error message
