Changing Ngrab default mpeg setting

Can anyone tell me how to change the default setting from mpeg to avi when recording onto a external HDD ? I wish to re-direct the stream to my Multimedia player, and it will not accept mpeg ( for some stupid reason ) I am struggling a bit as its in German....
