Hey Guys,

I need help for starting a Bmw 320i from '96.The car stayd with ignition on for 3 days and from that time it dosen't start.I attached here some pictures with my scans.I don't know what is to do.I understand that the Bmw key has a variable which is changeing every time.

ECU siemens ms 41
EWS 2

Immo off dosen't seems to be a solution.

as it doesn't start you have noting to loose, try turning the key

on, off, 7 times and on the 8th turn try crancking the engine.

yes, it file for some hw,

your original dump is damaged, I replace with a new dump. and I have the original data input from the old dump. including key data.

if your programmer it same,
i send picture your safe conect to ews 2
and if your mcu in ews 1D47J (ews 01) or 2D47J (ews o1) you must put mcu on the board.

everything looks ok with dump to me ,did you make key for position 5 to 9 those position is not in use .

can you scan the EWS module ? if you cant sometimes the elmos ic may be damage .

before dump EWS. I can start. After dump , i make key number 5 used and write in on new transponder. Then go to start engine but it is quiet. Then use original 4th key to start. It is quiet too.

Why not ?

hi , are you sure that the transponder is position in the correct direction ?

also check the gear is in park position , also clear any faults in the ews module .

PLS guys..use gambit for programming new key. It always works ok for ews2.
else use emulator from smok for ews2.

1.36 using the scanner this is the dump of ews ii but it tells me there is an error might help me correct it.

This dump is worthless since it doesn't contain any important data for making the key. You cannot make a duplicate of the key, but can make a new key with a proper dump of ews (read by a special interface directly from EWS).

I have an EWS2 with dump damaged.
Using this dump, will work with Original DME?
The DME is Bosch 0 261 203 667.

I use this dump on EWS2, and run with original key and original DME???

The BMW Scanner 136 cannot read the whole EWS memory. You need a special interface to read it directly from the disassembled EWS unit ;)

rwgodoy: What is your dump byte size? Should be 512 bytes.

Hi, I am trying to resolve a key synchronisation issue on e46 2000 model. I am using bmw scanner 1.4 and inpa. I have got to the point where I unlock and erase ews after saving backup, but when configuring I do not know password for key ident.

ews backup dump is 913bytes , normal data dump is 256. I cannot get either of these to work with ews editor. Is there another program or manual method of extracting password and fixed codes for all keys? I seem to have all other info except this.

Please help!!

I have a problem with a 0261203276 BOSCH ECU ....
I changed the engine in a 316 e36 ... the new engine has this type of ecu with ews ... the old one dose not have ews .... so ... the question is someone out there that can tell me how i can make just the ecu immo off ?

I'm trying to save an old E36 that have a fried EWS2 (i already changed the fried one and i need to reprogram the used working one)

When i get a used EWS2 i also take the keys with it (pull out the chips and put them in your car keys)
Then read with (INPA) soft ISN number from DME that you are going to use.
Then program with (INPA) soft this ISN number in EWS.

It's a interface, but EWS?

No, if have seen many interfaces for EWS but this I don't
know.
Also you have many types EWS motorola's so if you find the soft belonging to that interface you have to be whery lucky to get a working Key-EWS-DME

This simple EWS2 i only take from scrap with transponder chip. And after 5 minutes have a working system.

View pictures and you will be cleared.Is the best,desolder MCU and connect as shown,success in reading is warranted.Use any sw UPA 2.3 serial programmer,Motorola cracker or better UPA usb,ETL hc11 programmer.Regards.

The programmer that you posted don't have these names (MODA MODB RESET etc) but it just say to connect to some pins that doesn't match with the diagram that you posted now.

my bmw wont crank, no gas, no spark, seems like the ews is preventing it. i bought the car as a no runner. the guy who had it before me said it ran fine, he started it up during winter let it ran for 30 mins, then turned it off. one week later he went back to start it and nothing. i had the dme fixed by a computer specialist because it was waterlogged, but it still doesnt turn over, still no gas and no spark.

You car EWS2 is friendly system.(not big problem)
Best way is to first read fault memory EWS and DME
and post DTC(s)

I can't access to my EWS with impa. It say EWS NOT RESPONSIVE.
I tryed 3 EWS but always receive the same message.
3 EWS broken or maybe DME that doesn't allow to comunicate with EWS?
I can access all the other things in my car so is not a cable or a comunication problem of the computer.
I can also access to DME that say that EWS is offline in the error list (the error say EWS in open circuit or short circuit)
Someone here can help me please?

Old style Ews in your car uses also S/E module.
S/E = connected to transponderring and EWS

Your EWS is always online but you cannot read(diagnose)
When you put ignition on S/E sends signal to EWS and then EWS wakeup and can be read.

First try to find S/E (blackbox with 2 connectors)
Position under steeringcolum
One connector with 3 wires on it you have to have
+bat and -bat (with ign on)

If S/E +bat = not present you cannot do diagnose!
and car also not start.

Hi mage i found it and is connected and have power but i still cannot enter in the EWS.
Any other thing that i can do?
Do you have a pinout for try to access the EWS on the table connecting an OBD cable directly?
Some way for bypass it and eliminate the problem?

Yes I have.

On table you can do testing (and diagnose), this workt for me!

-EWS 2 (small white/purple) K line
-EWS 5 (red/yellow) to +12V power
-EWS 7 (brown) to ground
-EWS 13 (small blue) to S/E (pin3)

Connect S/E (white connector) pin1 to -bat, pin2 to +bat and pin3 to EWS(13)
When you powerup S/E (pin2 to +bat) this module sends signal to pin13 EWS
Signal = message $05 or $10 (9600,8,E,1)

After this powerup you can read with diag. software on table:)

If still no communication ? S/E bad?
S/E sending message?

I also have an interface for connect SE direcly to the serial port so i can test SE without EWS.
I think is this the damaged part because i changed 3 EWS so is impossible all 3 defective

I have exactly the same problem as PTKPTK.

I took a dump of EWS with BMW Key programmer (red and black box - HC11 programmer), then I programmed a new key, everything went perfectly. Then I put EWS back into car and now my new key or my 2 original keys wont start the car anymore. Could the EWS dump be corrupted? Car cranks but wont fire, even tried resyncing EWS to DME but no luck. Anyone know what could of happened? I can still scan and talk to EWS with scan tool and it identify's it still perfectly but the car wont start anymore. Car is 2002 330ci Motorsport - EWS 3, any help very much appreciated.

I have a 320i M52B20A with Siemens MS41 DME that intermittantly (1 out of 5) non starts where crank is released by EWS2 but ISN exchange at DME not releasing injectors & coils. Could a resynch cure corruption or should I get dump of EWS and flash into donor DME?

You need to write it to the EWS, not the DME buddy. To do this use this:

X Prog-M Programmer

Thats what I always use and it works perfectly.
Note: When refitting EWS to car make sure ALL DTC codes are cleared before attempting to start car. From experience, if you dont clear the codes the EWS somehow still think theres a fault so it wont allow the car to start. I have been fooled by this 3 times now, its weird I agree but it works.

Thankyou gtmech, I've been looking at the X prog Motorola programmer options (tmt/clones). With this can I program to EWS2 on vehicle or bench?
Is there a specific tool for Bosch & Siemens (BMW) chip applications? I can put up with this issue but intend to cure with the virgin EWS2 reflash to reset the DME immo handshake. Cheers.

AK90 tells me dump is corrupted, Zedbull say its ok, xprog-m has no dramas with it but car wont start.
I have now after taking proccessor on and off the board melted the rectangle blue capacitor.
Anyone know where I can get this part from and if you can check the dump for me that would be great.37900

how is the dump getting corrupted to start with?
if u take a read of the dump first and that would be your backup and then you make a copy of that and play with the code of the copy only then if the copy is corrupted then cant you just reinstall the backup again? Or is the backup copy of the dump the one that is corrupted mate?
What did u read the 2D47J with?

did you make new key ?

dont do any thing as yet until you answer these question.

because if the car is cranking the key is working just sync with scan tool .

Yeh I hate those 2D47J chips aswell buddy, you can guarantee whenever theres a problem it will be that chip that you will be working with.
I have heard this problem being discussed before here on DK, if you can keep resynching the EWS to DME and it works then it looks like the same problem, unfortnately there was no solution answer in the post but have a look anyway
