There was another thread but some of the instructions were wrong and this thread title makes it clearer.

I only did this two days ago and my clone box is working fine with Gemini 4.40. So decide upon yourselves if this is enough time to feel safe doing this.

I'll post both the fw2 and img files. Only the IMG file flashed 100% for me so I recommend that one.

img (recommended)
brainwave img flash (http://rapidshare.com/files/140729211/brainwave-firmware-mac-hack.rar.html)

fw2
brainwave fw2 flash (http://rapidshare.com/files/140729782/brainwave.rar.html)

ATTENTION : Don't forget to make a backup image !

1st Download FLASH WIZZARD and upload the modified firmware image "brainwave-firmware-mac-hack.img" to dreambox

2nd Reboot dreambox and then, connect using telnet (use dhcp, and find the assigned IP in the control panel).
The login/password are the default credentials (root/dreambox).

3rd execute the script calling it like this :

/bin/patchME XX XX XX XX XX XX

The XX XX XX XX XX XX is the desired MAC ADDRESS. Do not use colons to separate the bytes.
example:

This is ok --> /bin/patchME 00 09 34 01 AA 55

This is not ok --> /bin/patchME 00:09:34:01:AA:55

Congratulations ! Mac address permanently changed.

Feel free to upload your backup image or Gemini 4.40 :)

thanks for the offer m8 but i personally dont understand why people would want to load a gemini image knowing that theres a very good chance it could kill their box.

i wouldnt touch gemini with a barge pole after what they done, i never did anyway as i find other images much better on the eye as well as functionally.

good luck to anyone that wants to try it though

UH OH, has my box been nuked?

I was browsing with the remote and it suddenly went off. No Adios Amigos screen though. I was on Gemini 4.40.

What happens is I get a power light and ethernet light and after a few minutes the power light goes off. No TV screen output either. Does this sound like a nuke?

I got a brand new DM500S. I was assured by the dealer it is not a clone and the price is the price of an original one.

So, the only way for me to find out is to give it a try. Dream multimedia got all tech details from but cant say if it is a clone.

:cheers:
