I have borrowed Hand held unit called - VAGProg fron a friend and I have used it just a couple of times and have found it to be quite a good tool for Radio codes. I was wondering if any other members have got this tool and if it was worth opening a Forum Thread to discuss help or problems about using this tool . What do you think ??

you would have many more functions for a bit more.

I think DSP is worth buying. They are cloning many functions from Enigma (inside info). And it works well.

I bought also a VAG DASH PROG (Smelecom) with 20 % discount, it arrives Monday I hope, we can give each other feedback if you like. A complete DSP cost a lot more, so it isn't worth it. Most of the cars in Europe are Audi, VW, Seat and Skoda, for other cars you can use Diga or tachosoft and cheap programmers, there are also affordable Ford, Fiat and Opel OBD mileage tools on the marked now, so why pay more ?

No RB8 is not in the menu, only RB4 (2001-2005) and A4 8- up. You have to take cluster out and solder a couple of wires on back of board. I think RB8 is not in the menu because Smelecom also sells a A4 decoder, if they put it in de vag dash prog nobody buys this decoder tool anymore then.

They sell also R250 and now all functions are supported by Vag Dash. Anyway for me Vag commander can make RB8 by obd not soldering any wires.

Yes, I do have the R250, don't need it anymore,

I think only the new original vag commander can do A4 RB8, which version do you have? Personally I don't like vag commander, one small mistake (especially while working with a laptop, wrong button, battery almost empty) and cluster software is corrupt.

Hi,

I know why, you need to take cluster out and read the 24c32 eprom, there is a program on your cd with service mode, you need to open dump in software and write new dump in cluster. Then build in cluster again and program mileage by diagnostic.

Forgot to say, if you don't like removing needles use the images, there are 2 versions of the board, numbers are eprom pin numbers, you can read the eprom on the back of the board.

8= Vcc
6=SCL (serial clock)
4= Vss
5= SDA (serial i/o)

I've tried the tool on a Golf 5 2008 and Caddy 2008 both work fine, but I think I was lucky, not all clusters are supported. And I have problems with A3, they have sent me another unit but still same problem. The service is fine so I expect it wil be solved soon.

Just did A6 1999 with vag dash to try K-line, cluster reset is not implemented, even old diga can do this, but write okay. So disconnect/connect battery, job done. Old VDO cluster.

does any body know for sure if vag dash prog can adjust the odometer of new vag cars 2009(skoda,passat,...)with (NEC+24c32)?I asked smelecom and they told me that this tool can do these cars but i got some feedback from some friends and they say that vag dash prog can not adjust these cars.

You must read eprom by another programmer,set the bin file on a pc with smelecom software tool into servicemode and write it back by programmer on dash eprom.After this modification VAG DASH PROG should be able to work on dashboards with nec...But i have not tested yet...

Smelecom update, after making a backup with laptop and vag~k commander, vag dash prog programmed a A4 RB4 2002 succesfully, you never know with this tool :stupido3:

Passat cc nec no problemo, program to make service mode implement in vag prog.

I'm very pleased with it, only a coupple of cars that should be in the device like they say in their compatability list aren't there.
Like vw crafter, edc15, porsche panamera.
Contacted smelecom and they say, wait 2 weeks, frequently update and they will show.

Almost daily changes in software through update.

I have the eeprom adapter which i got with the vagprog
& it is always better to use the eeprom adapter with the VAGPROG(new) becoz u can easily Change the DUMP into SERVICE MODE by using the new vagprog as the software is included in the vagprog

no need to use that old PC soft for the service mode

just read the eeprom & follow the instructions CAREFULLY in the vagprog

i've thrown mine in the bin yesterday, it smoked a RB4 cluster through obd and some eeproms witch i did with the eeprom adapter, adapter defect and the unit itself don't work perfect.

I expected a solid machine for this kind of money.

Because I have changed my ''old" 3 weeks old VAG DASH PROG for a VAGPROG, then it is not standard anymore.

That is called marketing, the old one was not good, you have to pay more for a non working VAGPROG and then you have to pay more for standard RB8 and Visteon because the old one had also no A4 RB8 and VW Visteon diag option.

Since I got my exchange unit I have only used it on 1 occasion ( not much work in my area , not bothered too much as I`m about to retire) but I have found it to be a well made piece of kit.

Hi, I exchange my old vag dash prog a week ago but I am not receive any eeprom adapter. The dealer tell me that it is normal because the old one did not have it I ask about the price and he tell me that it is 500$. Is this normal? Because on the old unit I was able to do nec based cars but now without eeprom adapter I cannot do it any more. Anyone which exchange the vag dash prog did receive also the eeprom adapter?

Yeah, take a look at their prices. I bought my old tool for 1500$ and I payed extra 200$ for exchange and 100$ for freight. If I was bought a new machine I was pay 1500$ and I will receive all hardware including eeprom adapter without AUDI A8 07 UP soft and without AUDI A6 / Q7 09 UP soft, which did not have it anyway because AUDI A6 / Q7 09 UP soft is on eeprom adapter. Also the visteon is inactive too. Did you think that's fair? When I buy that machine, it is still on developing, and I choose to buy it that mean I chose to support smelecom. Why smelecom chose to fucuk me and all old customer? Because we trust them?

Yes i now that. But sometime can i will smelecom be better too write manual or fix stuff to the homeside. If you do a update its the name is 1200.1254 in your Vag-Prog it`s the name 14d 0002a.

Before smelecom tell me more about the tool thay say i need too buy more stuff too my tool too fix my problem. But the have done my problem.

But now it?s everyting OK and my DASH is good agin. And i are happy. But sometime i hope smelecom tell people more about Vag _prog

Download the new update and will work again. Use the new pc-link designed for xp.

i had the new soft before it was released, i had major problems with my vag prog.

i tested a lot of soft and options t6o look for the problem, i called every day 2 weeks long with smelecom to get it solved.

they send me a new board for my vp, my old ond had a fault in it.

Yes just do activate function with PC_Link and all will return. There is a day counter on your tool that requires you to do a update at least every 30 days. If you take the latest update, this will provide a warning when you power up the tool that you will need to update soon. e.g "Your programmer will need to be re-activated within 3 day?s time. Please use the activate function procedure before the time expires."

I am not a frequent user of any of the tools that I own and because I am now semi retired. I don`t go out of my way to look for work.I mainly do Radio/Stereo repairs. Having said that I am surprised at the number of members who are very quick to say derogatory remarks about any unit without getting in touch with the main man first. This can be done by asking the question in a proper manner on this forum and waiting for a reply or by joining the relevent support forum and contacting them directly. From a personal point of view I have found that this is the way to go on the couple of occasions that I have needed support.

theres no new Avensis, no Zafira B there wer a few more i cant remember but these are common cars, surely you could add them on there?

my friend owns a vag dash prog (old 1) and while doin corrections he gets message "error step 00, 06, 09" etc what do these mean?

These `ERROR` messages usually mean that the software in the tool is not up todate enough to be able to do the job on that vehicle.

taking needle off this type of cluster arent bad, you can either twist anti clockwise and lift at the same time or used a forked screwdriver (not sure of the technical name) and pry them up. before remove make sure u know the stop point of the needle or else the calibration will be out. the old vagdash prog (without colour screen) requires you to use eeprom reader to read the eeprom and save it to desktop. run the servive mode program supplied with the unit, select saved file, now select service , you will now have to save this modified file. write modified file to the dashboard eeprom rebuild and use obd option, evertything should go fine. ive noticed on skoda octavia tthe radio will require for the code to be entered.

I have done a repair on a few late Skodas and Golfs and only on 2 occasions has the radio asked for a code. This is unusual as the radio is of the `self learning` type and can find it for itself. However, if you are quick enough when disconnecting the battery then you stand a fairly good chance of not losing the code.

it was with NEC,i take out eeprom reprogramm with
Service Mode,and job done over OBD2,and yes i read key eeprom,look in attachment

Has anyone managed to program a 2010 Audi S4 ?? I was asked to repair faulty cluster. I tried one today but at 7% read the hand held box said it was unable to get past the security code and it stopped working. The car started OK but I was dissapointed in the non perfomance of my Vag Prog.

mastaflex: Dont buy Visteon option, I have tried it on 5 diffrent dashes on 4 cant recognized correct km value, when I try change it on one he make dash error, on nr 5 newer one he can recognized km value but when You change it no effect. I have buy VagProg + immopackage and till now except edc15 login read and golf to 06/06 nothing go! When I have try change value on newer cars I get 007E error, and support till 5 days give me no answer on it!

Hi,

I know why, you need to take cluster out and read the 24c32 eprom, there is a program on your cd with service mode, you need to open dump in software and write new dump in cluster. Then build in cluster again and program mileage by diagnostic.

Forgot to say, if you don't like removing needles use the images, there are 2 versions of the board, numbers are eprom pin numbers, you can read the eprom on the back of the board.

8= Vcc
6=SCL (serial clock)
4= Vss
5= SDA (serial i/o)
