Vvdi Prog and Msd80

I’m trying to read a MSD80 from a 08 535 with the Vvdi Prog. I’ve found several connection diagrams but can’t ever get it to connect to the processor.

This is the connection I’ve tried and I also put a 100R resistor in between my can high and low but with no better results.
Anyone have success with the vvdi Prog on this ECU?

VVDI Prog can do Tricore boot mode read only.
For MSD8x there are not much supporting boot mode read. I doubt VVDI prog is capable of it.

It does have it listed but that doesn’t really mean anything.
Anyone have success cloning this ECU?

Where is it listed? Inside VVDI Prog -> ECU -> BMW -> You find Bosch only. No MSD8x
If you mean Tricore in general, it will not work. As you need password.

For ecu cloning you will need good chiptuning tools like CMD, KTAG, Magpro, Autotuner...

My KTag died months ago. What about Galetto? I think mine is under an old coffee cup on my desk.

Original fgtech maybe. Clone v54? Highly unlikely...

you need autohex or ecu explorer or vvdi2

ktag, kess and vvdi prog will not do it.

Original Ktag will work for cloning.

Seems Ktag v2.47 is about the only popular tool that does it. Fgtech posted last November that they added the option but the driver list they published last month still doesn't list a password tri-core boot-mode option so who knows if latest Galletto does it. All can read everything but the password protected areas of flash. My workaround is, if necessary, to clone eep and what can be read of flash then write the new ISN to the CAS.

Just an update. The vvdi2 will read the Isn but won’t do any editing of the Isn or the vin.
Galetto was a no go but I borrowed the Original Ktag and it did the trick. Thanks for all the help.

What is good tool for cloning this ecu? Can I just solder the flooded ecus tricore to another one?
