xclamp fix still rrod

hi,
I have read the threads and still cant find an answer. I have a console with rrod tried the xclamp at first when i turned the box on the rrod would show up after 7-8 secs now its straight away dont no if thats a problem.

I have cleaned the gpu, cpu, heatsinks done every thing was ment to. then let it heat up with out the fans then let it cool down. BUT STILL RROD. main problem i have is i dont no how much to tighting the bolts up. Some tuts say finger tight let it heat up then tighten properly. some say just tighten them hard

I have messed about with the bolts and stuff but still no luck. If someone could me out i would be very greatful also if anyone has any tips

Use a heatgun on the gpu chip.

The problem being that using the console itself to overheat doesn't always solve this problem.

Purchasing a heat gun and using that on the chip causes a reflow of the solder which repairs any hairline cracks which is the most common fault on the earlier 360's due to the type of solder used at this time.

well it looks like it's not an overheat problem as its only taking 8 a few seconds to show the rrod. try the above suggestion or you could always give the old towel trick a whirl.

why not first check the 2nd code that could give u a plasable solution when its red ring hold down the button for connecting wireless controllers and hit the drive eject button 4 red lights=0 1 red light=1 2 red lights=2 3 red lights = 3

i tried the heat gun method the gun i used only had two heat settings so i put tinfoll round all the plastic like the video said i tried the first setting for a few mins let it cool for 20 mins tried it still had rrod so i done the same thing again on the second heat both on and under the board let it cool for 30 mins put artic sliver on the gpu put the heatsink back on now i get the rrod straight away and it shuts down after a few seconds not even enough time to get the error code. :(

What is the manucture date on the console.

If the console boots only for a few seconds and shuts down this indicates major malfuntion.

Board may be damage.

Check tracks for cracks. Also check all caps as heating may have caused a split.

I'm guessing you get the xbox to boot but only 2 Red lights and cut of after couple seconds?

Are you saying here that there is a way to find out if a console has a fault without running it for hours to see if it crashes?

Reason being I have a box which (supposedly) crashes with 3 red lights after about 2hrs of play. Since I don't actually play games myself I have no real way of testing this - I have left to box on for 10hrs running the tutorials on FIFA10, no problems - its still running now.

Is there any other way to test this box to see if there is a problem or not? (short of getting someone to play on it for a few hours).

There is no way to test the box other than running it.
If the repair is done in a professional manner then there is no reason why it shouldn't work for good.

Thanks cgs - In your opinion though, would running intro videos to games for hours on end be enough to heat up the gpu to test for any fault? or does only actual game play stress the cpu/gpu sufficiently to test for poosible rrod failure?

Run the box for 36 hours.
