Hello all. I have had two w169 eis that I haven’t been able to read on bench using VVDI MBTOOL using obd mode. I can read via IR tho. Is this normal?
I’m using a EIS/ESL gateway tool
Has anyone else had this experience?

Make your own tool and it will work. Those adapters are never made good. Just make them yourself and it will work ;)

I have prepared myself this adaptor. Bring one gateway by E211 scraped with cables, connect power supply, from EIS to ZGW connect via low speed CAN (brown and brown/red). From OBD to ZGW connect high speed CAN (green and green/white). In this mode work 100% secure.

yeeees, right ;)
all W169 need CGW connected like W209 or 211, but some newer W169 have CAN-D available yet, then can be connected directly to OBD without CGW :listen:
about the stupid tool from emirates....its a big crap for the price what they sell it :stupid:
the same self homemade tool can everyone intermediate build for les then 1/10 of the emirates price ;)

If you could not read on bench and you are reading from IR reader means you have a wires connection problem, dissemble all again and start back step by step and enjoy
