Relatively new computer, 10 months old, packardbell imedia 53730, windows 10 and using Chrome. I don't do any gaming or heavy duty downloading or streaming.

instead of going to sleep it freezes. Pointer locked, screen stays as was when it froze. No response to alt ctrl delete. Have to reboot. Has happened a couple of times after about an hour of use while I'm still active, so it isn't always sleep failure.

Run advanced systemcare 10, driver booster and ccleaner - no difference.

One thing I've noticed - it doesn't seem happy with Adobe Flash

I'm not terribly computer savvy - googling it is terrifying - any simple fix I can try?

Thanks

Is the computer over heating ?
It can cause random freezing if it is.

I'm afraid not. It will freeze if left unattended after a few minutes, even after a cold reboot after being off 12 hours

Could it be software corruption ?
Sometimes the updates from Microsoft get corrupted when being downloaded. You could try deleting all the updates and then let the computer re-download them and see if it makes a difference. Other than that all i can think of is to try a complete re-install from the recovery partition on the computer drive,of course you will loose everything of value to you so back the files up first.

If you can

a) remove one stick of memory
b) swap memory sticks around
c) download some memory checker

could be hardware fault

I've got an Asus x7115 and it is exactly the same. Other day it got slung across the conservatory. Not wise but 6 hours trying to load is in. It had to be done. I'd of took great pleasure in smashing it to bits with a hammer at the time but one wasn't available. Bought it new and never used it or never used much. Maybe a few hours over the last 13 months. It's impossible to put a duel Os in as it just freezes. Looking at the above it seems to be the Os as mine is the same as the guys above.it seems not to like the USB drive being used. . think windows 10 is the issue. This update for me has made the problem worse.

Could be drivers try booting it up in safe mode and see if it will stay on

Can you post a screenshot of your task manager?

Could be drivers try booting it up in safe mode and see if it will stay onI binned it and bought a new hp one. To be honest it was never good from the start. Think it's been a faulty one from the start. . Cheers for the reply though.

Things to check and do

- Download official drivers from the company website. Do not use 3rd party apps to download drivers they can contain error ors or not match.
- Check Windows update
- Check ram modules
- Open task Manager can you see anything suspicious ?
- Start PC in safe mode ? Does it do it then
- Download HWMonitor check heat temps.
- Download CCleaner scan and delete temp files, registry.
- Could also be a sign of a failing hard drive HDD download a HDD checker.

Lastly delete format and reinstall Windows.
