Hi Guys

I am overwhelmed with the knowledge you guys have on here, and therefore was wondering if you could start a tech talk for dummies slot. It would certainly help me.
Can i start by asking what the following mean.

what are "dumps" e.c.u, instrument etc. and how do they work
What is the EDC16, is it a commonly used ecu?
What is im*o

Sorry but we all have to start somewhere.
cheers
Mark

dump = the content of a memory
e.c.u = electronic control unit
instruments = it's that thing in the car that show's you the speed, how much fuel do you have and so on
edc15(16) = electronic diesel control
im*o = it's the abbreviation of im*obilizer , if you refer to a im*o box that's a unit of the car that reads the chip of the key (transponder) and if everything is ok send's a signal to the E.C.U and let's you start the car

I have a friend that can also be a friend of you , his name is GOOGLE

Cheers. I have been googling since coming on here but its really difficult to understand and get to grips.
by the way sorry i didnt mean what are instruments , ecu's, i just wanted to k now what the "dumps" were.

Am i right in saying if i had a knackered ecu, i could buy a blank ecu, and with the numerous "dumps" available on this site reprogram the new one.

Do you need a special type of software to remove and replace ecu programs.?

i have used texa for trucks and insite for cummins and am not sure it is possible to do it on them.
