Hi chaps,
Working for days on a Renault Megane benzin 2001 automatic transmition.
This car has a Jaeger cluster , and usually the speed mechanisem is the problem, but not in this case,
because the odometer is also not counting. my conclusion is that the problem is in the ABS or ECU or Body controler.
I replaced these 3 modules, but the speedometer refuses to work.
I was told once by a Renault dealer that the problem is a failure in a wire in the main harness.
I don't know if this information is real or not, but could some one share his or her experience with such a failure ?
Looking forward to your help, please.

Hello, if this board model is mounted with needle motors (speedometer and RPM) with transparent cover (Glass) not with white cover it usually happens that the axis of the gear train breaks and the needle no longer works or does it wrong , you should disarm the engine and look at the axis, fixing it again, I hope it serves you, luck !.

CHECK :
If really has in the gearbox speed sensor.
Ive found many times cars with ABS and also sensor
Check there is no Parrot or whatever device connected to radio, even you can disconnect radio.
This is because on radio connector there is one cable that comes with speed data ( to increase volume) and it affects the system.
Many times happenned to me.
Finally ( probably its your problem) check a litlle black box with fuses , near the battery.
I dont mean the tipical battery place, I mean the battery compartment near the windscreen.
Sure they are blown or cables corroded.
Remember I mean near the windscreen/wipers place.
Sure you can solve this way.

Thanks to your hints. This car does not have speed sensor.
I used a scanner to detect the speed, but it shows 0kmh.
I read the 4 wheel sensors and they show their speed, so i don't understand where
the speed information is lost, somewhere in the way.
Does any one knows how the speed is detected and sent to pin 23 of the cluster ?

Believe me what i say:
First check radio/parrot or whatever device connected
And fuses/wires behind battery near windscreen.
You find many wires corroded.
I assume your battery is near windscreen
99% is your problem
I had this problem many times.
And its hard to find.

Golfmkl, thank you very very much for your advice.
I took the battery out and found a broken wire (green).
I fixed it and the speedometer started to work.
I am so happy, after so much work i gave on this car.
