Doing a AKL job on this tomorrow.

Is VA8 the only lishi pick to open and decode this model ?

Any tips ?

Thanks in advance 👍🏻

err no . the VA8 tool was made to decode the new 8 cut toyota locks for overseas market and to pick and decode the daf lock . it will work on the DS3 on positions 3 to 8 but the decode may well not be accurate due to this being a 6 cut lock , the tool will be a very sloppy fit in the 6 cut lock allowing fractional movement of tool as not tensioned on the shoulder , this fractional movement under tension whilst decoding causes miss reads , you only need the tool to be a tenth of a mm off of square in the lock to read up to an entire cut out on the decode in some positions., tool must be perfectly square to get accurate decode. so although the tool is backwards compatible and will pick and decode the 6 cut lock it takes alot of patience and some luck to get the decode accurate.

DS3 on this year should be on the 1234Q5678H series VA2 , so the correct pick would be the VA6 4 lifter tool to pick this and accurately decode it . also make sure you have the newer version of va6 tool , the 1st generation didnt fit the ds3 , a shoulder mod was needed for ds3 locks , if the later tool this should already be done .

Thanks Rapid

Is this lock easy picked with VA6 and does it prefer a set sequence?

like the va2 its one of easiest locks to pick , no sequence , you will have 2 wafers one side in positions 3 and 6 and 4 the other side in positions 1245 .

the picking is the simple bit , remember you will have wafers on the A and The B arm on each side generally , decode the same way as you pick with the same arm , the cruscial bit with the decode is to follow the arrow on the lift arm to the correct grid , as one arm reads off of the left grid and one arm off the right grid , it is essential when decoding that you follow the arrow to correct grid to ensure accurate decode .

once practiced its straight forward , i can pick and decode most of these in around 90 seconds to 2 mins , very straight forward if using and reading the tool correctly.

picking this lock poses no challenge at all , picks the same as the VA2 , in fact if you have the ignition enabled VA2 pick it will pick this open without issue but wont decode it , as long as you pay attention to the decode and follow the arrow pointing to the left or right grid and decode from correct grid its hard to go wrong.

most get themselves confused by the 4 lifters and decoding from correct grid , practice makes perfect on these as with all locks . most shocking one i had was all 8s and 4s put pick in tensioned and it opened , didnt need to pick a position

Hi Rapid

Girl found her key so just done a spare by decoding original key. Defo will practice with this pick in scrapyard to get to grips with the decoding.

Thanks for advice & tips much appreciated 👍🏻
