hey, my mum always called thiss recipe savury rice - up to you?

fry onion, mushrooms and bacon (i always make the bacon crispy so fry it first)
#
remove from pan with slotted spoon (one with holes :-)
#
add rice and water to pan used for frying other ingredients. (water will be the amount needed for how ever much rice you choose to use0
#
when rice almost cooked throw the bacon etc in and simmer for 10mins (spice as desired)

Remember to cook your chosen spices with your flavour base (onions, etc....). I add them towards the end of frying and turn the gas down a bit.

I think most people have their own recipe for this type of rice that evolves from trial and error. I would say put in your favourite things and remember that for most rices you want equal volume of liquid to rice for steam cooking method. That means heat rice and liquid to boiling point (DON't STIR) then put lid on and turn heat to minimum for 20 minutes. Turn off, wait 5-10 minutes and your all set to go.
