I have asked the question below before and was snowed under by replies [none!]

What exactly IS the point of the THANKS BUTTON :questionmark:

Is there a bottle of Tizer at Xmas for the person with the highest number of "THANKS" :questionmark:

Why do some Peeps say "If what I've said has done you any good - press the RED Thanks button --- If I haven't helped press the GREEN Button" [and why do they make such a song and dance about it - large Fonts etc etc]

No amount of searching [even under my keyboard] has ever succeeded in finding the GREEN Button BTW :thrasher:

I await an explanation with trepidation........

Its a way of trying to stop people just posting " thanks "

there is nothing worse than reading a thread full of thanks posts.

Its deffo better having the button.

I remember old Amiga BBS systems had thanks systems back in 92~3ish?
Back then it was a reputation system to allow people to trust what they downloaded.
Shit took ages on a lightning fast 11.4k modem let alone my 9600 model :(

Point is you got charged per minuite to connect and a lot of them where international so a download wound up consting a fortune. Simmilarly with today you had fake releases so if a download was going to cost you ?30 (a couple of floppies worth of data) then you needed to be certain that the software was legit.

Been around since the dawn of the internet to be honest maca.

Hackers.com had a thanks system in place back in 94 on their pre vbulletin design if i remember correctly.
Prior to Ranger and Adore gaying it all up.

Can't swear to it - but I think FIDONET had a THANKS button as well..........

Those were the days....... I was a "POINT" with loads of Dos Batch Files.... and you could send a NETMAIL and get a reply in 24 Hours........

Happy Days.........

I consider the thanks button as a measurement of how much some1 knows about what they're talkin about. I trust the opinion of someone with a load of thanks' than someone without.

There are exceptions to every rule of course -- like ME -- most of the time I have no idea whatsoever what the hell I'm on about.... :thrasher:

But then I don't take Life too seriously as I'm not going to get out of it alive anyway !!
