View Full Version : Xprog how to connect eeprom?

Hello i am xprog begginer and i would like to read in circuit eeprom m24c32. Please advice how to connect it to xprog output wires. In the xprog help schematic is just picture of the eeprom with pins description B1...B8 but its not showed on which xprog pins shoud go. Sorry for stupid beginer question a nd thanks for help!

desolder and put in adapter on the 8 pin part of xprog , sometimes when i read in ciurcut the eeprom get corupted or u can search for eeprom clip

If you try to read a EEProm in Circiut, remember that any Programmer gives Supply Voltage (5 Volt) to EEProm and also to the other Componets on your PCB, so it could be that the main Prozessor Boot up during connecting your Clip to the EEprom, it could be a good soloution to make a shortcut to the main Crystal of the CPU or Micro Controller. In some cases the EEPROM crash during this Boot up procedure. The best Way is soldering out !

I will not agree with you. Not all ISP will give you supply voltage. And it wil not be 5V as there is A LOT of MCUs working on 3.3V and other (i.e. 1.8V). In most cases MCU is powered from circuit and use ISP for programming only. Of course you have to have GNDs connected to get proper reference for programmer.

There is posibility to power up from programmer in most cases, but it is not 100% proper way to use ISP as programmer can give too small current for whole circuit.

For me it works like this:



Buy 1 ea Universal SOIC,SOP8(EZ) SO8 TO Dip 8 Adapter
Buy 1 ea SOP8 SOIC8 test IC clip +DIP8
Buy square pin socket adapter

Remove the Xprog top case- remove one round pin socket - install the square pin socket on the top ( adjust if necessary -filing ) – install the Xprog top case.
If is needed to read on board use the: SOP8 SOIC8 test IC clip +DIP8
If the EEPROM is desoldered from board use the: Universal SOIC,SOP8(EZ) SO8 TO Dip 8 Adapter

Note:

- mark on the adapter pin No.1 with paint ( see attached potos).
- if you don't know search on google how to find pin No.1 for the EEPROM.

Order a pogo 8 pin adapter it will make reading eeproms in circuit a breeze..

I will buy this pogo style stick to try it, but looks like is required to have a steady hand or to have adapter like an bdm frame to do the job.

I use all the time and have horrible unsteady hands... just make sure to clean legs, sometimes I use wooden stick like for popsicle (nail file) and some 99% alcohol to clean comformal coating off of chips... sometimes I don't clean at all because pogo has sharp points that makes good contact....

If you are not on budget andromeda research lab has excellent pogo style reader adapter that is long and easy to use but cost alot of money....
