07 kia sportage - the 'passenger airbag disabled' light is on, oh, it turns off for a couple seconds when I start; so the computer module is alive, but it is always on, seat belt plugged or not. And I never have anything on the seat. The manual sez the light should be off. Now this would be minor, but it is SO D@MN BRIGHT. It out-shines everything on the dash and is a hazard to night-time driving.....
Any suggestions on diagnostic to turn this thing off?

That light turns off when the passenger seat weight sensor detects weight(a person) in the seat. Plugging the seat belt in wont make a difference.
You can put black tape over it if it bothers you so much.

The service manual gives this 'truth table':
Empty(buckled) ... ON
Empty (unbuckled) ... OFF
Small ... ON
Large ... OFF
Indeterminate ... ON

If I have a full sized adult passenger, the light is off. So, SOMETHING is working.
Before I resorted to the electrical tape, I thought someone may have really looked at this and had a 'fix' or at least diagnostic. Thanks anyway, ateyourv8.
