Hi you could take the bulb out, or read fault codes with Op-Com or something similar, to determine why the light is on.

Friend of mine says he had problem with the cables under the drivers seat on an Audi..fiddled with and its ok now.

The only way to get the light permanently off is to repair the problem. To repair the problem you need to read the codes, that is cheaper than trying to find the problem without any info.
Or take the light out. However, if the light is (should) be on the entire system does not work. Maybe your choice, but what about your passengers - girlfriend, wife or children?
