its no secret , theres a thread somewhere on it and 3d have announced it on their site and facebook page , in march they was raided by trading standards counterfeit team and had over 500k of stock siezed , the investigation is ongoing which is why now many suppliers only supply keys with no logo on them at all . thus many keys have doubled and some trebled in price as they restock .
the interesting fact from the statement made by 3d was that they considered anything not in original manufacturers packaging as being counterfeit , so if a ford key is not in a ford package with ford label and barcode etc then it cannot be sold as oem , so everything not in dealer packaging containing a logo was siezed as counterfeit.
manufacturer logos were once sold by many suppliers , these are now sold by none of them in uk , whether linked or not who knows.
the outcome no one knows yet as still ongoing and takes time , whether this will result in raids on locksmiths , ebay sellers etc selling keys with logo on , no one knows for sure , im sure more will be known when the investigation concludes and what the aftermath of it entails . the only thing thats for sure is the manufacturers are biting back and it will be interesting to see if isolated to 3d or whether it will go further and how far .
if nothing else it has caused a drought on oem keys in uk which has resulted in the steep rise of prices on oem keys with many doubling and some trebeling in price , so im sure which ever manufaturer instigated this they are seeing the benefits already .

Yes read about trading standards busting 3D and seizing keys. Didn’t realise this company was so big. If I was in your shoes I’d be offloading half your stock. As the saying goes what goes up must come down. This doesn’t help our cause as beer boys will be buying crap of fleabay etc and anyone buying off a reputable supplier is paying through the nose.
More pressure on profit margins

the price cutters wont be buying oem keys from 3d or anywhere else , they will be using keydiy and china keys , so will have very little effect on the jumble salers or beer boys , business as usual for them , the only way it can bite their arse is if they are sticking oem looking logo on the snide keys , or if claiming a key is oem when it isnt. so a move that actually helps the price cutters and hurts the legit traders far more.
id just be careful what you advertise and sell as oem keys as if not in official manufacture packaging seems to be where the issue is for 3d , they had no interest in aftermarket keys or keys with no logo , just oem keys with logo and what they deem ilegal use of their logo. but until the investigations conclude and any prosecutions take place if the case , no one knows for sure the exact issue or how far they will take it. i believe trading standards prosecutions are fined at £5000 per offence or 2 years in prison per offence , what is unclear is what they deem as each offence , ie is it every key , every key model number or ???
most wholesalers around europe have had to remove make logo's from their websites and advertising in recent months and many now only sell a key with no logo on it .
i have my own company logo that i put on all aftermarket keys including KD , asking for trouble sticking look a like logo's on them.
face it if the want to hurt the cut price locksmiths , all they have to do is spot check all overseas deliveries especially china and compare payments to invoice values , something DHL were actually doing a few months ago , this would cause severe pain to the beer brigade and the ebay sellers as would have to import on true invoice values and pay full duty

Yes logos are an issue.
Better explaining they are aftermarket or give them the option OEM for £x or aftermarket for £x
DHL do this spot checking from time to time always did. It’s because they act as the Inland Revenue and customs and are self monitoring so no government intervention on goods coming in. Saves customs doing the work DHL do it for them. Lot of Chinese sellers use UPS or Yoodle because you have better odds getting goods with zero import duties in with customs rather than DHL.
