i was just wondering is there a link or sticky that can give me a layman's view of various cable box's and generally just an explanation of the various one`s

TV Only Boxes

Eurovox (PVR)
Starview
Kryptview

Linux Receivers (with ethernet, can record to PC, etc)

Dbox2
Dreambox (dm500, dm600, dm800, dm7025)

at the mo i have a starview 1
i want to upgrade to any box that will let me record to a built in hdd and watch on my lounge tv not pc don`t want to stream to another tv
would a dreambox be the best i have limited knowledge with computers but learn fast
although i am generally interested in the whole area

If you want PVR functions then your options would be Eurovox EX5000 PVR, DM600-PVR or DM800HD-PVR.

The dreamboxes are more involved, the eurovox is more plug and play and away you go. But you'll probably need to upgrade the firmware no matter what one you go for but there's plenty of help here for that. :)

The eurovox EX5000 is cheaper too.

More of a hobbyist box a 7025,suspect the OP is just after watching tv.
